Plastikhaar vs. Prohair- what’s the diff?

I kept hearing so much about this forum that I had to join! It's much more user friendly for me than the Quinnster board....honestly, I've never participated over there because the black backgrounds and neon text drive me crazy [I feel like such an old lady complaining about backgrounds and text color...heh]

Well, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "spiral curled." But in general, I don't curl my PH or Dome at all within the first few weeks, because I order the PH 50mm and the Dome Classic, both of which stay wavy for about 2 weeks (or one wash). Then, after the second wash (at the two week point), I reset it with velvet-covered hot rollers and rawk that look till the next wash. And then, at 3 or 4 weeks or so, I'll blow out the ends to make them smooth and then reset it again. I've curled the hair at 9 weeks, and it was fine.

I used a curling iron on my first PlastikHaar batch, after testing the iron and the heat (some irons are just too damned hot or inconsistent). I curled it while wet. It works quite well, but you really have to be careful because the risk of singeing the hair is pretty good otherwise; the curl it creates is very stubborn (which is a good thing if you like it). But generally, I just use the hot rollers instead, although I have a set of jumbo Velcro rollers, which I'm planning to test with the blow-dryer cap in a few weeks. I'll post pics afterward.

actually there is ONLY japanese kanekalon!
my supplier told me that they have tried to find out another
raw material since japan is an expensiv country.
so i know theres a korean kanekalon copy and theres a chinese
kanekalon copy. but both arent that good as the japanese stuff.
chinese stuff is fine for dreading : )
but i actually worn a whole head of chinese peperoni straight myself
and it holded up very good. but again....it all depens : )

Noop. They're definitely not the same company; Dome even has a US side already, so it wouldn't make sense to have a second company for US sales. The corporate differences are huge, too; Dome is very online-savvy and responsive via email, and Trimco, well, you can barely even get in touch with them by phone. The only way I know how to get Trimco hair is ordering from Hairpolice. (On that subject; omg, Heather's here! Rawk!)

The hair is different too. Dome's textures always come coiled up, so they have a slight wave, whereas Trimco is always straight. The quantities and packaging are totally different (for one, Trimco bags are 9oz, and Dome's are 3.5) and Trimco is a way better price. Also, Dome always feels silky, but Trimco fibers seem a little thicker- as in the bag, it feels kind of coarse. It feels silkier once you wear it, but...I dunno, I'm gonna test-drive some Trimco myself in a few weeks to see.

As far as heat-resistance goes; this photo is of curls done in blue Dome Prolin, pink Plastikhaar, and white Trimco, all with a curling iron on low heat and about the same amount of time. They came out pretty much all the same, as you can see. The first photo is just after curling, and the second photo is with the curls brushed so they separate.

mmmmm, Sara, I get it now.  Synth is just like human, sometimes you get a good batch and sometimes you don't.

 Sara; I don't understand one thing, please, "some colours seem to be better quality then others."  Sara, so when ordering colours, which colours are better the natural or the rainbow?

Well. . .it just so happens that I have Prohair and PH in my hair, mixed together, side-by-side, as we speak. (What else is new?)

The lady who installed the Prohair said it performed better than PlastikHaar (i.e. that it had 'memory' and would retain curl after washing) and she had some interesting colors in stock that she wanted to mix in so of course I agreed!  Anyway her assessment is simply not true in my experience.

I like the PlastikHaar better (the 50mm). It seems to have more 'body' to it. It's not heavier, but, for example, when I put the big hot rollers in my hair, the PH responds better and looks more vavoom-ish. The Prohair is much straighter and it's supposedly the same 'wave'.

Charlene - I've worked with Dome, Prohair, Trimco, and a little bit of PH. I think the Dome and Prostyles tend to be a bit shiny and barbie-ish. I think some of the PH colors start off shiny but look more natural after washing. I like Trimco because it matches human hair the most, but the quality on certain colors hasn't been the best lately and they don't have different textures. I'm interested in trying the PH out on myself, but it probably wont be for a while....I already have my next few hairstyles picked out ;)

Scotchyroo - I'm pretty sure that Prostyles / Prohair splintered off from Dome....but I could be wrong.

Between Prohair and Trimco, you should be able to mix any color, it's just convenient that it's already premixed with PH. But also, I'm sure I'd end up mixing premixed colors too, out of habit ;)
