OK.... I know we have discussed many options on which glue worked best for pretipping. Initially the LG with nail glue over the top was the preferred choice. Then we stumbled upon the Aleenes with LG over the top. I also heard of Aleenes with nail glue over the top. I had heard that the Aleenes will dissolve in water if something isnt used over the top. Ive also heard the LG and/or the nailglue helps to make the shrinkies adhere better. I have a combination of different pretips and have experienced some shedding, not Im not sure which tips are the problem! Whats everone using these days? I have an entire batch of wawa that Im ready to pretip and I want to do it with the best combination of adhesives......as I have them ALL!!!!
LOL.. so many options. I'd like to hear more about silicone tips too
from people who've had a chance to test and wear.
I have Aleenes tips in now that were covered in LG. I have now lost
one tip (at the nape) after 5 weeks of wear. A complete success,
imo, as I always lost at the nape.
I soaked an Aleene-only tip in water for about 10 minutes. It did not
fall apart on its own but it did become very soft. After taking it out of
the water and not messing with it, it became very hard again.
Another tip, while it was still soft out of the water, I squeezed it and it
did spread out but I had to actually pull it for it to come apart.
Aleene with LG or Aleene with nail glue over the top did not change
at all after a water soak.
I attribute this great hold to a combo of the shrinkie itself but the LG
over the top gave it extra hold under the shrinkie. I wouldn't do LG at
all with the microring method. Instead, I would put a drop of nail glue
on it to keep it completely waterproof and to withstand the pressure
of the application.
I'm evidently not coordinated enough to work with Liquid Gold...that stuff was a nightmare for me. The latex was much for user-friendly, but I didn't care for the time involved recoating with nail glue nor the brittle feel they had when coated. I really like the epoxy/silicone method. Cheap, easy, one-step and they hold up great.
I've just changed my method actually. I was using the ailene with nail glue but it was taking too long when I had 4 clients in that week that meant I had to tip 8 packs of hair which took me about 24 hours extra time, it was getting to the point that I couldn't get my words out propery LOL. Anyway I did a lot of research and am now using a glue gun with clear hot melt glue sticks which remelt at 170 degrees. I've fully tested this in the shrinkie and whether it melts into the hair or not Amm's remover fully gets it out, its also good with the extentubes cos I've emerged it in water for an hour and it just went a little bit more pliable, so I'm using that at the moment xxxxx

Yes Amanda, I too am curious..... about the glue stick you are using and the method.
I find the Aleens quick dry, with nail glue the easiest process. They are maybe a tiny bit more difficult to place properly, but I find it worth it not to have to freak out with LG.
By the way, would LG be easier to deal with if you warmed it up a bit?
I have to tell you Amanda, I'm jealous of your four clients in a week!! I wish I just had an extensions buddy to work on!
Sherrie, I've worked with Aleen's Tacky glue before for non hair related craft, and I knew it was supposed to be water soluble. So when I heard how well several of the chicks here were digging it, I went out looking for a washable version. It exists, but takes 4-6 hours to set up and 24 hours for a complete cure or something like that, so I looked around a bit more. I ended up getting a similar product called Fabri-Tac permanent adhesive. Cost me around 4 bucks. It's another craft glue but it's washable and it sets up really fast - you pretty much have to roll each strand as you go along. There were 5 or six different craft glues that were tacky and washable (at Super Wal-Mart anyway). I picked this one because 1) it sets in minutes 2) it can be thinned with acetone if it gets thick. I've only made a few tips with it so far to try it out but found it easy to work with. Didn't stick to everything like LG does, and makes much thinner tips than silicone, although they are not flexible. of the whole bunch Aleene's was the one that was non-toxic.
edited to say: looked around the Joann's site a bit, and there seems to be a quick dry Aleens tacky glue, although not in the washable version. They have a lot of glues that sound useful there!

LG will cure if heated. You can (I have successfully) thin it
with TCE (one of the ingredients). I think you might be able to
get TCE in hardware type stores as a cleaner of sorts.
The TCE thins out gummed up LG. you can also thin the original
formula. It takes alittle longer to dry but holds just as well in
my experience.
Sherrie - its a high melt glue stick, remelts at 170 so it doesn't remelt a lot when you are applying it with the shrinkie. I've just done my first full head client with it and it worked a treat. Because the glue slightly heated back up it meant I didn't need to roll the shrinkie. After the shrinkie was rock hard. I've tested this glue on my hair and my manniquin head's and it came out with Amm's remover. Its from B & Q warehouse, hot melt glue gun and clear glue sticks xx

What's C & F? I use the doc's heat wand. They cook just fine. I use the doc's heat wand at the maximum temperature. I think the shrinkie acts as a heat reducer,that's why the glue only remelts a little bit. It don't matter if it melts as long as Amm's remover gets it out yi pi xx

I also use Aleen's and liquid gold. It works great for me. I do notice that I have to make sure that I don't use too much glue and then I just put a light layer of LG over top. Too much glue makes it get kinda thick and balled up at the ends when you try to roll them. It works pretty quick for me, but I only do it if I have to anymore. Too time consuming!! I'd much rather just buy pre-tipped!
