QuoteReplyTopic: Hair Problems, Keeping Long Hair Posted: June 04 2005 at 4:22am
Maybe someone can help with some suggestions on what to do. I've been a haircutter/hairstylist since 1993 and I cut and style my girlfriends very very very long hair one every other month to keep her hair ends neat so her hair looks goodall the time when styles. About 2 weeks ago she said to me that she wanted to cut her hair she said because I can't do the style you do and I want my style all the time and also it gets tangles all the time I can't stand it when my hair gets tangled and knotty. I said to her that's why I do your hair every other month to keep it neat. Maybe I should do your hair more often like twice a month. she to me ok but that wont help me learn the style I have to keep it brush it all the time to keep the knots out. I said so what do you want to do I like it long and you have beautiful hair. she said maybe I should cut it all off and not worry about hair trouble free. (Her hair is about an inch above the waist). I said your crazy your not thinking of cutting your hair. she said I don't know I can't keep the hairstyle you do for me neat and I can't style my hair the way you do it. How do I get her to change her mind and not think of cutting her hair sometimes she can be a very stuborn person and when she makes up her mind it's made up. Anyone have suggestions or a solution to my situtation.

Long hair worn loose will tangle. The only question is how quickly it will do so. If she wants to avoid having tangles, she either needs to be willing to brush it occasionally, or wear it in styles which reduce or eliminate tangling (such as braids or buns). Show her how to style her hair in ways that will result in fewer tangles.

It is her decision if she wants to shave it all off. I've heard of some salons that have a 4-6 month waiting period for shaving someones head to make sure it's not a "whim".
You could also explain to her the high maintenance of shaving the head every other day, unless she wants stubble.
What about asking is she'll go for a nice short cut instead of shaving? If you keep telling her long hair is beautiful, she'll go to someone else who will cut it short.
**Hair type: 2a, which is wavy and fine.
**Color: Naturally dark brown, currently dyed reddish brown.
**Length: below shoulder length
I Understand that it's my girlfriends decision. She told me many many times that she would never go to anyone else to cut her hair. I tell her that her hair is beautiful all the time. If it's her decision then that's her decision and I have to respect that. When she makes up her mind it's made up but she would get a short haircut first before shaving her head. We talked abouit it many times.
