Well are you making sure to moisturize the back. The demarcation line ( where your natural texture and relaxed texture meets) needs special attention, especially moisture. Also, tugging and putting it in styles to cause alot of stress on it can cause breakage as well. It is not always because you need a touch up that breakage occurs.

I use the s-curl at the back especially because the new growth comes in so quick there. Like this morning, I put it in and pinned my hair at the back with a bun. I try not to leave it out because of the whole collar thing, but then I think Im stifflin the main area that I have issues with. My pins all have the rubber tips on them..

How often are you washing your hair anyways? It's nice that you deep condition on a regular sometimes those scalp massages done by professionals ( not trying to stereotypes but they usually have long fake nails on) are doing more harm than good to your scalp and your hair.  It also seem like you may be putting too many products in your hair. Remember less is more. Trying deeping your hair pins in oil so it will glide into your hair instead of accidently pulling or assisting in the breakage.

On Monday mornings tho I have been known to get desperate and use a curling iron or hot rollers - but Ive cut that down.

It's good that you cut down. But a WHOLE week is still alot of heat... try once a week and going to a salon ask them to cut on the heat as well. Usually they use the metal tools into the little oven and spray and grease the hair and curl it while your hair sizzle .  Not good at all.

Good well it sounds like you are taking good care of your hair from the inside...but now we want to retain length and health from the outside as well. Many of the elements mentioned previously is hindering your goal.

It may have always been the unhealthiest because there may be steps that you did do or did not do but you are here now and we are willing to help you.

Sorry for the long post...there was a lot to respond too.

How do you take care of your hair? Do you wear it down everyday and let it rub on collars (which can cause breakage)?

If the back/middle is always breaking, sounds like you may frequently pull your hair back into a ponytail, bun, etc. ??? Although, this is fine doing it too much and using the wrong ties (rubber bands, hair pins w/o coating on the tips) will definitely cause breakage. The questions SimplyAlex listed are great to find out what may be causing this and then you can post for other possible answers. Good luck!

Is your hair relaxed?

I'm gonna take a guess and say it is. Relaxed hair needs alot of TLC. Relaxers make our already fragile hair even more fragile. Some factors that could be causing your breakage are:

  • Overpossesing- Leaving the relaxer on for too long or relaxing already relaxed hair.
  • Too Much Heat- Using heat often will burn your ends and cause split ends and breakage.
  • Hair Styles- Tight buns and pony tails can cause breakage around your edges.
  • Not enough care in general- Your hair could just be neglected or over munipulated. Remeber TLC.

So let us know some things first answer the following:

  1. Is your hair relaxed or natural? (If your relax: How often, and what brand to you use, Lye/NoLye?)
  2. How often do you  wash your hair and what products do you use?
  3. Do you use heat at all if so you often? (Heat includes hot irons blowdryers ect.)
  4. How do you protect you hair at night if at all?
  5. How to you usually style your hair?
  6. Do you ever do any protein/reconstructive treatments? How often?
  7. What styling products do you use?
  8. How's you deit?

for some reason I cant get my hair below ear length, it's always been this way and I try so hard. While the front and sides of my hair will grow, (one side grows longer and thicker than the other - but that;s a different issue) the back middle is always cutting out or breaking.. Any experience with this? Is there something medically wrong with me? am I lacking moisture or protein? Any thoughts or experiences that might help?...
