I'm not color expert, but you can get the orange out of your hair by dying it over with a dye that has green undertones.  Maybe just get a brown semi-perm or rinse with green undertones until you can go get a permanent color at a salon.

thanks!  its actually the same color in both pics but the flash didn't do it any justice  I got those highlights done at a salon a couple of years ago so they are growing out now.  I have no idea what color it is!

I just put in some braids yesterday and the hair color I bought was 1B/30-- it matches my hair almost perfectly

Well, I might give it a shot with a demi-permanent color before I break myself at a salon. I guess I could go back to black and get some extensions for highlights- I will never dye my own hair lighter again... extensions sure have come a long way- I have learned alot more about them on this site. I dont really want to change my length, but I do love the idea of highlights for summer. I will take a pic of my hair and post it later so you guys can see the havoc I reaped on my head LOL.

sistaslick- Your hair is pretty! I like the color in your feb. pic- how did you achieve that color?

cmesweet- Thanxs for the tips.

I agree, any salon or ask a stylist what you should use and how to do it...maybe they can give u a discount sometimes students discounts and other specials to make it more affordable for you.

wow, I don't know what to tell you now!  I was gonna say go to a salon and they should have the expertise to correct a home color gone wrong.  Even if its not an ethnic salon, any good salon that has a colorist will be able to fix you right up.

Girl, I really don't know!  Anyone else?

Can anyone please give me some advice on how to correct my hair color? I wanted brown chunky highlights in my black hair, did it myself with some "blue"-something brand and 40 developer. It ruined my hair that I have been growing out for a long time- it finally got to my shoulders on the sides, and a few more inches down my back in the back. I really don't want to cut it. I can't afford to go to a salon right now...there are really no good ethnic salons in my area anyways. It is bright pumkin orange everywhere that I put the 'bleach', it looks even worse outside... I am so embarrassed because everyone was telling me how pretty and long my hair had gotten before all of this. ANY IDEAS would be appreciated... anything besides this color- even if I have to dye all of my hair. Worse- I still want the highlights style- just not orange and brassy. P.S.<This pic was before I took my hair out of braids-
