Hello

a few questions...

I see a few posts here and there about clip ons and everyone I have seen post has only good things to say about them, which makes me wonder - with all the issues with itching and breakage and pain and so on with bonds, weaves and so on, why does anyone still use these methods if clip ins are so good?

I have just ordered hairuwear synthetics to try out - if they stay in and are comfy and easy to put in etc then I will buy more probably human hair.  can anyone comment on hairuwear (mine are in the post and as i am in new zealand prolly wont arrive for weeks) or recommend other brands or generally give me some info about clip ins?

can you put clip ins around the fringe area if you have fine hair?

I have had weaves and the dome method and pinch braids - my natural hair is very fine so i have them for thickness and length and if i were to use clip ins as my only extension I would probably want to be able to wear them every day - would this cause any problems?

how do they compare to more permanent methods?

thanks :)

Well, they can be a bit bulky because of the clips and wefts, and I don't think you can't really wear your hair up with them. They're basically a temporary weave. So they're not as versatile as extensions (I think. I haven't worn them, so I could be wrong.)

And then also, they're temporary. Many people don't like having to take their hair off every night and put it on each morning. Personally, I barely do any haircare in the morning, even with extensions in, and to have to put in clip-ins would drive me nuts- and probably a lot of my customers, too. Also, many of my customers wouldn't be able to get the placement and installation of clip-ins right themselves every morning, so they have extensions put in so they know they'll always be in the right place. :)

I don't think wearing clip-ins every day would be a problem, if you had the patience to put them in. Someone here does that- is it Kimbearly? And her clip-ins look great. So, you know, not saying that clip-ins are a better or worse choice than having extensions installed. It all depends on your lifestyle, your morning routine, how much patience you have and when- for example, I can sit for 5 hours braiding in my extensions every other month, but I'd get annoyed after 2 minutes of trying to put in clip-ins every morning. :) You just have to find the system that works best for you.

I have been wearing Clip-ins for 2 years now and just love them.  I wear a 1 ounce clip on the bottom of my head and it is about 7 inches in length.  I am sooooo good at putting it in - it takes maybe 30 seconds.  I put my clip-in on while my hair is wet just because  it is easier for me.  My hair is cut so it is layered and because of this is blends very well.  I also have wavy hair and my extensions are wavy so that helps with the blending.  I use human Indidan hair and I am able to acheive a PERFECT match of hair color and wave.  I make my own, color my own and order my own.  I have had no damage to my hair while wearing extensions.  If you get excellent quality hair it is very easy to take care of.  If you get good to poor hair it will knot like crazy on your head and feel like straw (just after a few washes).  I wear my clip-ons all day until I go to bed.  I exercise with it in, jump on the trampoline, and go to the beach.  I take it out to swim and always when I go to sleep.   I wash it once a week and use a very thick conditioner.

My weft

My hair with nothing in.  It is much longer now since this was taken back in Feb. I believe.

The after.  I trimed the straggles on the end; maybe about 4 inches of it because they were badly split.  When ordering Indian hair make sure you order much longer than you want because of splits.

These pictures are a few months old now.  I will post brand new ones with the hair that I bought from FinaFina (I should be getting it any day now ).  It gives you a good idea though of what you can achive with one weft of hair.

They are nice, but Zapevaj is right .They have their downsides too.Depending on how much hair you have in you cant wear them up.And you have to take them out.It really is all about what your used to.I dont mind putting them in.I only wear them when I go out(which isnt a whole lot).So its no big hassle.I also make my own. They can be great. If they are weighted right with clips they shouldnt cause damage.Especially if your not wearing much hair. The hair I've used in the past held up alot better with clips.Seems like it lasts alot longer off my head.I bought BSS hair  last time I made clips and they lasted over a year.I still have them, but I just got better hair.I love mine but again they are not for everyone.

I really love my clips ins and have been wearing clip ins for about 4 or so years.  I put them in daily each morning and take them out at night.  It takes me about 15 minutes to put in 4 rows, where I'm teasing and hair spraying each row so it stays in my baby fine hair.

I like being able to take them off at night and when I'm exercising and the like.   Now that I have my plastik haar wefts, I can color coordinate my hair to my clothes, so that's fun!

The down sides:

*You have to put it on each morning

*sometimes you will get a clip that will pull on that 1 stray hair, and it hurts

* some clips want to pop open, so you have to be careful when brushing.

* they are heavier and bulkier than strand extensions

*it's harder to do an high ponytail because of the bulk of the wefts

For me, these things don't bother me, so clip ins work well for me.  I have many clients who don't want to fool with them and would rather have the hair semi permanently attached.

hi metal girl

do you have some pictures of yours? seems like you are the lip on expert around here :)

Have you seen or used the hairuwear extensions?

in terms of bulkiness and so on - are they any worse than tracks - extensions stitched to a corn row - which is what I did have?  I cant afford permanent separate extenions and a friend did put a few pinch briads in but it took him SOOOOOO long to do just a few that i dont think hes at all interested in doing a full head of them.

thanks for the pictures kimbearley your extensions look great!  Would love to see the new ones.

Howev er I have quite fine hair and would definately need more than one extension. its cut into a bob at the moment so when i had the tracks in i needed 4 of them to blend in with my own hair.  (heres a picture:

I loved having long and thick hair - however they were soo itchy i think because my scalp is oily - & i coudlnt get it clean properly with them in, so i had them taken out and i MISS my long htick hair

also the hair was rubbish and when they came out the bottome track which was folded double had about 10 hairs left in it - it was this pathetic scraggle - it looked so sad & pitiful i had to laugh that i had hadd it stuck to my head and thought it stil had hair in it!

heres my hair normally - with a few extensions in the front :

anyway after having long hair im addicted - just need to find a way that fits my budget and is compfortable
