Hello, I'm a newbie. And today, I decided that I am going to transition. I have a little bit of new growth, and right now my hair in cornrowed. I'm really excited actually because, I like my natural hair texture. I told my mom and at first she wasn't really too keen about it, but now she's warming up to the idea. I had to remind her that my hair will grow back. The main reason why I'm transitioning is because I'm tired of my hair breaking. I feel that for me it just takes a lot of work to take care of relaxed hair, and with me going to college in a small town doesn't help. My plan is to wear braids from now on and have a possible BC in December on my winter break. I plan on throwing away all of the products that I used on my relaxed hair except, my WGO, S-Curl, and olive oil. To all the natural heads here, if any of you wouldn't mind sharing your growing experiences (how long did it take for you to grow your hair out, what products do you use?) or even a photo album would be nice, just to reassure my mom that it'll be okay. She trusts me and knows that either way, I've made my decision. I'm excited and I hope that with the help from you all that this transition will be a good one TIA

Congrats, Sassy on your decision! I'm not natural either, but applaud anyone w/ the courage to do so. Not sure how many naturals ladies on this site (and the ones that are, I'm sure have lots of advice for you), but the longhaircareforum site has lots of transitioners there and good info as well. GL!

What hair type do you have? I have 3b and some 3a, and I grew out of a relaxer successfully. I'm not sure how long it took but it was at least 3 years because my hair is really long. It takes lots of patience but it's worth it. Good luck.

What is your hair type? I'm a 3a/4c. I transitioned for a little while by doing braid outs and I always wore my hair in a bun. It is very important that you keep your hair moisturized(especially the new growth).
I did the BC 2 1/2 weeks ago and it is the best decision I ever made. You see my hair began to shed and break about 3 months of being post relaxer so I felt that I HAD to get rid of my relaxed ends. And not to mention that my hair would get mad tangled.
