I usually get shape ups but my friend told me to get a tapeup, whats the difference?

the tape ups around me jus have the side burns lower evens out the hair but doesn't cut it and shapes it up...maybe its diff around you guys but in the tristate area i know its for people growing they hair out usually rockin it in a fro...and around in nj a taper is an uptown fade in ny...thats what im used to...around anyone else diff?
