I know what you mean that happened to my hair as well. But now I am natural and my hair is thriving. My advice... Ditch the relaxer.

I agree with what everyone says. Try stretching out your perms or possibly growing it out since it seems to be hard on your hair.  Since your hair is so damaged I would use little to no heat on it since that's just gonna increase the damage.  Try moisturizing wet sets and wraps maybe.  Protein treatments and cholesterol treatments helped me a great deal. Protective styles will also help your hair grow.

Your hair sounds similar to mine when I had mine relaxed.  Mine started breaking and I couldn't get it to grow past a certain length.  I did a lot of research on hair and after a lot of trial and error I grew my relaxer out and I would never go back.  Do some research on hair and also the ladies in this forum will help you a great deal with your hair problems.  You can definitely have healthy relaxed hair with the right care and nourishment.

You may be getting relaxers too frequently and overlapping on new growth. THis can cause alot of damage and thinning. I don't have a set amount of time I stretch for but it depends on how much new growth I get. A few months ago I got about an 2 inches in 10 weeks. THis time I got that much in about 8 and my hair textures were so different I relaxed 2 weeks early to prevent further shedding.

You may need to switch your relaxer as well as pay close attention to how your beautician is handling your hair. Of course you know better than I, but some beautician are not the gentle when handling hair or they use too much heat. There are ways to stretach your relaxer and in doing so giving your scalp and you hair a chance to rest. Also pay close attention to your ends as well as how you are wearing your hair.

There are alot of factors, including drinking water and eating healthy that contribute to your hair health. Thankfully, you've come to the right site for help. Everyone here is awesome!!

What type/brand/strength relaxer did you use?...a lot of people here have beautiful relaxed hair so repair and health is possible but maybe you should try not relaxing...unfortunately there is no quick fix...but there is lots of help on the board...goodluck!

I agree w/ Renee. Maybe stretching your relaxers and not visiting the stylist every 2 weeks would help the condition. It seems as if when you're at the salon, they use heat a lot. Try to use little or no heat at all on your hair. It makes a huge difference! It's possible to have healthy relaxed hair, it just takes a lot of patience and a good regimen to stick to. Good blessings to you. And whenever u need assistance, just ask around. Everyone here is generous and willing to give great advice!

i also relaxed my hair when i was 14 and my hair never grew and even though it was already thin, the state never improved. So decided to stop relaxing and go back to my natural hair and im not regretting that decision. relaxing isnt for everyone but if you think its for you, im sure there are some products that might work for you. Do you take vitamins? what's your regimen? and maybe you should start strecthing your relaxers. maybe every 12 weeks. It might be hard to do so but your hair will thank you for it. HTH

I'm 15 years old and my hair used to be midback length. My mother didn't allow me to perm it until i was 13/14. It used to be so gorgeous and healthy and people always used to comment on how it looked like a weave. Right now my hair is barely shoulder length and its thinning. I reperm every 6-8 weeks but i get my hair done every 2 weeks. Even my mom and hairdresser are chastising me on my hair. Any advice?
