I just posted about my highlighting concerns.  I like the color, but it feels like my hair is damaged at the ends and some of the dark that shows through looks blotchy and very unnatural.  but..I LIKE the blonde look.  I'm wondering how I mightbest keep up the blonde look without getting more blotchy color and more damage.  Is 'coloring' blonde better for my hair than highlighting to blonde?  Would that be a possibility to start for the roots and then work into just having it colored rather than highlighted as it grows out?  As I mentioned in my earlier post, the colorist painted some of the highlighting solution right on the roots after she took the cap off this last time to lighten the roots that didn't get done with the cap.  Is it really OK to put that stuff right on the scalp..is that a normal procedure..no one had ever done that to me before.

Wow, I'm posting a lot today! Well, coloring hair all over is a little more damaging than highlighting hair because you're coloring full hair while highlighting only isolate strands much lighter. Yes, you can start growing out your roots and color them as long as it doesn't overlap the existing highlights and the ends to reduce the damage as much as possible. That's called root touch ups. As for blotches and damage, they have to be applied carefully such as going past orange or red tones, either by the hairdresser or yourself. Highlighting cap can cause those blotches near roots and among dark strands from my experience unless the hairdresser is very skilled so there're no blotches. But damage can't be avoided. Only healthy, natural hair can be damage free with minimal shampooing and lots of conditioning as well as low exposure to UV rays, heat, pollutants and the like so it shines like glass and very soft.
