Hi everyone, I hope eveyone is getting some good length these
days. I was just wondering about those broken hairs or the ones
that have fallen out and regrowing and when you look at your hair you
see some shorter hairs sticking up. Is there anyway to flatten
them down or make them look better? Over all people say my hair
is in great condition maybe I am just parinoid. Anyway hope all
is well and keep it growing long.
I think we are all critical of our own short hairs that we see sticking
up. But unless you had a period of major fallout or anything that
caused you to lose a lot of hair at once, (like if you pulled them out
or anything...I'm guilty of that one) then you are probably the only
one who notices them. They are just new hairs growing in and
everyone has to have them or we'd go bald!
On a day when I really wanted a sleek look, I'd use a little mousse
(with not much alcohol in it). But I don't personally do that
every day.

I can definitely relate to this question! I've tried "styling wax" (which works pretty well but smells odd -- maybe it's just the brand I used), mousse (didn't seem to keep the shorties down for very long), gel (not too bad as long as it's not too heavy), and hairspray (my current favorite for gluing everything in place).
The question I have along this vein is, what about all the little hairs that poke out along the length of a braid? They don't seem to respond to any kind of coersion, and my braids end up looking as fuzzy as a squirrel's tail! Any suggestions for this, while we're on the topic?

Everybody has shorter strands (and for the most part they do seem to be
a bit more unruly than those that are longer). Assuming they are
not longer strands that were abused and snapped off, those shorter
strands are simply re-growth for the strand that had fallen out
before. I too have lots of them.
One thing that seems to help the appearance is to move the part every
few days - switch from center to left, then to right, and back
again. Another thing which seems to "help" me is to put one drop
of jojoba on my palms, rub them together to get a thin film on each
palm, and smooth downward from the each side of part.

split ends aren't fractured hairs[hair fractures].Fractured hairs occur
above the ends,part of the hair above the ends is split from the hair
strand[that part of the hair that is split from the hair strand could
fall out and hair is thinner] it's of an unequal
length.Fractured hairs are caused by the same things that cause split
ends.

I found something that keeps the shorter hairs down pretty well. Unfortunately, I have a lot of them.
It's by "Bead Head" and it's called "Manipulator". Smells like coconut. You only need to use a really small amount. It's expensive, but with the amount needed, the 1 oz, $11.00 thing will probably last forever.

My 'baby hairs' and broken hair really show and stick up when I pull my hair back into a ponytail. They just stick up everywhere! I don't want to use hairspray because it gets my hair all sticky. But I really hate having all these short broken hairs everywhere. I look at other people with ponytails and they don't seem to have this problem. I don't know if it's because I have too many broken hairs or what!!!

A few suggestions which might help...maybe in combination... (if you're not already doing them):
(1) Finish with a brush before making the ponytail
(2) Slightly dampen your hands with water (or one drop of jojoba oil) and slick your hands over the top of your head
(3) Move the part

It's really important to detangle gently. The surface hairs are the ones that tend to break most often. You should examine your detangling technique to consider whether you're breaking any hairs while combing or brushing.
It's just a judgment you have to make for yourself.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

Never detangle with a brush. I always start with a wide-tooth
comb. If there are still tangles that can't be gently worked out
with it, I will resort to using my fingertips. When combing, I
start near the bottom, and gradually work my way up. I move the
comb slowly enough that if it hits a snag, I can stop without unduly
stressing or breaking any strands, but fast enough that I don't take
all day. When completely
detangled with the wide-tooth comb, I may optionally use a regular comb
for even better detangling results. Then a brush.
To "slick" hair back, or prevent fuzzies in braids, I use a small scraping of whipped shea butter. This tends to work better with curlies/wavies/coarsehairs than for fine hair like yours AmberJune,
Dave is quite correct about moving one's hair part. Perhaps I just have an odd head, but all of my new growth seems to be on the left side. When parted left, I have enough antenna sticking up to attract a herd of insects for mating season.
Though I don't work for the company, it seems I'm always pushing L'Oreal products.
Here I go again.
For those sticky-outties, I use the Nature's Therapy Mega Slick Moisturizing Pomade. This little container lasts forever and smells quite nice! I've even rubbed it between my hands before braiding damp hair and it keeps things in line! The pomade is not heavy. Just don't get too carried away with it, using too much.

Does anyone know if those broken hair will grow out, or will they remain that length? It seems that mine doesn't grow out because I have had them sticking out forever!!!!
They will eventually grow, but it will require patience.
You may have a fresh batch of hair growing in from a problematic period. Are they all coming in at the same location? Did you go through a good deal of stress in the last year? Wear a certain hair accessory in the same spot too tightly for a long time? Many of these things could have contributed to new growth in one spot.
I distinctly remember growing antennas after I quit wearing a hair claw too tightly in one spot all the time. It's best to move your hair items around. Just like furniture. After you move the couch, that indention in the carpet where the legs were...the carpet takes a bit to pop back up where it should be.
Create various hair styles and try new things to help take your mind off them. They are probably bad in your mind yet hardly noticeable to others.

The broken hairs are mostly at the top of my head and my crown. So it's reallly noticeable when I put my hair in a ponytail because they would all stick straight out.
I think I should just put my hair in a looser ponytail in the meantime so they're less noticeable.
