I don't brush or comb my hair.  I do the same as bentonace and run my fingers through it as well.  I found that combing and/or brushing messes up my curls bad!!

Unless I'm straightening my hair I don't brush it.  When I condition my hair in the shower, I run my fingers through it to get the tangles out.  You end up with a wod of hair on your fingers but it's the best way for your hair.

In the shower, use a comb to get the tangles out of your hair after you have put conditioner in your hair. After that don't use a brush or comb. Another thing about touching your hair when wet, that causes more FRIZZ so DON'T touch your hair when it is wet unless you are working with it.

DANGER! I drive like you do.

Detangle with a comb when wet, and be extra gentle. After your hair is dry, use your fingers only to detangle. When I go curly, I also try to keep the touching to a minimum so as to not break up the curl pattern. Brushes tend to be overkill for curls. I think they're meant for straight or slightly wavy hair, not for curlies.

I've heard different things about what curly haired people should use to brush with. Should I be using a wide tooth comb or a paddle brush? I also keep reading that its bad to brush your hair when it's wet.  But doesn't everyone with really curly hair have to?
