QuoteReplyTopic: first attempt at doing pinchbraids-PICS Posted: July 22 2005 at 12:48am
Well, here's my first attempt at doing pinchbraids on a real, live person. This is a gal who is a stylist in my salon. We used a mix of Prohair XL (#2, #3, #20) and Plastik Haar (anis, satin blond).
I still need some more practice of getting the sectioning cleaner and getting a uniform pinchbraid size. Over all I'm proud, and as you see, the results look good.
The only problem, it took me 11 hours to do it! I didn't count the number of pinchbraids that I did, but her whole back of the head is solid rows of pinchbraids and on the sides from the ears forward to 1/2" from the hairline I did 4 solid rows. Someone please tell me I'll get faster at this!
Yeah, the water is just to keep the stray hairs in, and make the
sections stay parted. I honestly hate the smell of hairspray (any
alcohol spray, really), so I don't use it, but I guess it would work
just a s well!
And yes, you WILL get faster. I think it took me 11 hours my first time
too! (And now I'm down to a "measly" 7...guh. I hope I'll continue to
get faster.) The braids look great- the only thing I'd say is that
there looks like a few braids where the tension is not quite even so
the natural hair wraps around the outside of the braid. That's not
usually a problem, but it -can- lead to the braid being more loose, so
it's good to keep that from happening where possible. I find that
re-dividing the strands where necessary (to keep them all the same
thickness) is the best way to keep the tension even.
Oh yeah, and your blending and color-matching is awesome!
I like it. I like the look and I think your braids look effective
right now. If this were for DIY I'd say Bravo. For a pro
I'd say sure you could work some on your sectioning and fake hair
strand size for consistency. And it's hard for me to see because
the color matching is so good but are those three or four way
plaits? It took me forever to do my head with the heat seals
which I would say should be a relatively similar time scale. But
I definitely noticed how much faster I got over time (especially since
I didn't do it in one setting so my arms got to rest). And that's
just one head. How did you do with picking the thread out?
I think that's probably the slowest part. I kow I suck at
it. But then again I usually end up breaking the thread off as
I'm tying. I'll never do PB streaks again now that I've done heat
seals....
BUt back tot he subject at hand. Good Work!

I think it looks fantastic! Great color match. That's a lot of nice little
braids in one row. That's how I'd want mine since my hair is so thin
and fine. Looks like everything is covered up real nice.
So, is the hair completely doubled over in the braid where the two
tails are the same length or is that just one long piece?
hat's off to you!! I have been working on these but the string "where did it go" I'm sure that took at least 7 of your 11 hours just looking for that darn thing!! And then I would get about ten done(on the doll) give em a pull and a few would just come out the others don't budge but they were done the sameSo a whole head I break into a sweat just thinking about it. Looks great!!
Metalgirl, 11 hours, but perfect, friggin perfect. Really super duper professional. I'm sure some of that time was just the perfect factor. One thing I can say is manipulate the head like crazy. I make them bury their heads in their chests for the first two rows, with stretches in-between.
But that's supposing the first rows took the most time, which they do for me, once you get rolling it's all gravy. Good job.
