Hi!

As I said a few days back, today I visited a barbershop for a haircut.  I was supposed to go tomorrow but my partner and I both had the day off, so we decided to have our hair cut together.  I did this because since I went short I have had this curiousity about going shorter and shorter.  And I have to admit I am in love with the fact that I'm saving all kinds of time, money, and skin irritation by not needing to use any "product" and not having to blow-dry.

My partner is a bona-fide long hair guy, but even he liked the pixie-buzz I had, so he was supportive of this adventure.

But now--OMG!!!  I did not ask for the really short buzz I wanted originally, and I'm glad.  This guy (the barber) was very aggressive with the clippers, and now I cannot comb my hair into a pixie--it's a total buzz.  Definitely a man's cut.  Wow....My scalp is really visible on the sides, and the top.  He buzzed my nape up above my ears.  It can't stick in any direction but "up" because it's too darn short to do anything else.

I love it, but NOW it's a bit radical, and I'm wondering how it will go over at work, though most of my co-workers liked my hair in the super-short style better than the conventional one.

We are trying to upload pictures, but the photo editor program is giving us fits.  We keep getting an error message, and it's messing up the computer.

Will I keep it this short?  Probably not.  But I do plan to to stay in a "really short" style for awhile.  Makes me wonder why I struggled with my long hair for so, well...long.

All in all, this has been a really fun experience, and I obviously needed the drammatic change--for whatever reason.

Have a grreat weekend--Lorryann

Can't wait until you get the picture upload thing worked out.  Sounds like you had a good time at the barbershop.  Would have loved to have there also.

You deserve an award LA, it takes some courage for a woman to go to a barbershop.I myself like the look of tight tapers on women, it definitely shows off your nape.I've been at the barbers when there was a girl in the chair next to me and she was absolutely giddy over the experience. Must have been the big clippers,if you've never had a good clippercut before I'm sure it's pretty exciting! She looked great after her haircut.I wish more women would use barbers,it sure would be more entertaining.Hope you can get those pictures loaded.

Did I have a "good" time while being clipped? I'm not sure.  There is a huge feeling of loss of control, or--no going back--while someone is shearing your head.  Kinda like panic--but it feels good at the same time.  I was not expecting the clippers to tickle so much!

But you are right about the guys enjoying watching a woman at the mercy of a barber.  There was a large audience--including men who had already "cashed out."  I'm not a gal who seeks attention, but I guess with a haircut like this I'd better start getting used to it.  It's always easier when I'm with my partner--whose hair actually came out looking LONGER than mine.  Mine is baby fine--his is thick and coarse.

Anyway, I'll get to freak out all our friends tonight, because we are having a cook-out/Red Sox-White Sox party.  Some people are already here, and here I am hiding in the study  . Gues it's time to face the music...  I'm not worried.

Lorryann

Good for you, I know it takes courage for a woman to go to a barbershop. I recently talked my wife into going with me to my barber. She already had short hair, like Alyssa Milano's at her shortest, and was willing to try a barber since her hairstylist doesn't give very good short cuts. She explained to my barber that it had been about six weeks since her last haircut, and she only wanted a trim. He assured her this would be no problem, and promptly started buzzing her sides and back with a #2 blade on the clippers. She wound up with a military style men's cut, buzzed very close on the sides and back with the nape boxed off square, and her side burns cut off even with the top of her ears. The hair on top is less than an inch long. Needless to say she was in shock, but actually likes it. I think she looks great, and am trying to talk her into using my barber again.

Yikes!!

If my barber had done this to me, I would look totally bald on the sides and nape.  My hair is light in color, fine, and thin.

Mine was cut (I think) with a #3 blade all over, and the sides and nape are tapered a bit shorter.  But because of the way my hair is, it sticks up like a buzzcut much shorter.

Still trying to upload pix, but the darn computer is not cooperating.  I can print them, but that's about it.

My friends were surprised by my new look (some had not seen me since I cut my hair) but they all seemed to like it.  I got some really bold silver earrings, which look great with the buzz.  Some of the guys weren't too sure if they would want their partners to go this short, but they said it was a good look for me, and everyone said "you've got guts." Must have heard this at least 20 times last night

The next hurdle will be walking into the office on Tuesday.

Lorryann;
Have you tried converting the files into bitmps? Also they may need to be sized smaller.

Hey jimr,

How do I go about converting my files?

I can fix almost anything that goes wrong with my computer, but we have had nothing but trouble with pictures!  I'm starting to think the problem is in the program itself.  Like I said before, all seems well until we try to upload, then the error messages start, the computer freezes, etc.  Groan!

I'll definitely let you all know about the talk at the office water cooler after everyone sees my buzz.  Thanks so much for your support!

Lorryann;
I sometimes convert jpg's to bmp's and use MSpaint to resize. This also shrinks the file size so the it doesn't take as much processing to upload. Click on the pic go [save as] select bitmap to desktop. Then go to desktop, open file, it should open in MSpaint. If the pic is huge, you can resize from the pull down stretch/skew.I might go 50% if its big or mess around till you get an appropriate size. Don't go too small. We still want to see you! When it's done close and drag and drop into message or copy/paste. I see there's an add image icon here. Whatever. Good Luck. It sounds like your photo program has a glitch. Time to uninstall prgrm and reload. MSpaint might be easier anyway.

I hate to be a buzzkill (no pun intended!), but the postings from Loryann don't sound very authentic to me.  Instead, they sound awfully familiar to the made-up stories sometimes posted here by hair fetishists.  I hope I'm wrong, but I am suspicious.  I just don't want to see people waste their time responding to something that probably never happened.

What the heck is a hair fetishist?

I don't know who you are or what you are referring to, but you are wrong, and your post offended me.

I guess I was mistaken to ASSume that this forum was a place to discuss short hair topics that most of my friends cannot relate to.  I have had long hair most of my life, and was excited--maybe too excited--by this experience.  But this was NOT an erotic experience, if this is what you mean by "fetish."  I just wanted a place to share

First Bob with the "You asked for it" reply and now this.  I was probably better off at the bar with the nitwits making idiotic comments.  I wanted to try something different and I did.  From now on I'll keep it to myself and my partner.

Thanks to those of you who offered encouragement and support.

If anybody suspects a troll, please send me a PM, and I will investigate.

Please, do not post your suspicions on the board.  It seems all-to-often to lead to dissent within the board.

Thanks for your cooperation.

I'm sorry -  I certainly didn't intend to offend anyone.  I definitely do not want to create discord within the board.  From now on, I promise to restrict my comments solely to hair topics!
