Amost..but not quite

Ok,  so...I finally decided to cover up the first signs of grey.....I haven't done anything to my hair in over a year so it is nice and healthy. I wanted (key word here..HAHA) to stay the same color but cover grey. I got a permanent color....Loreal Excellence cream in 71/2 A (medium ash blond) As this is the color I thought I was according to the box. The results turned out SO close...but just not quite right. I do see a general orangish under tone in the hair...not too bad but it is still there and I would like to get it out ( without damaging the hair any more than possible.) Maybe my real color was a dark blond or light brown (NOT medium blond like I thought )and that's why it shows some orange? I do have a Sally's close but would like some advice as to what to put over it. A toner I know but what one/brand. The color is SO close to what I wanted...if I can just get the warmth out it would be perfect...any suggestions? Oh and since I have started my haircoloring adventures....please reccommend an awesome conditioner to keep me in tip top shape....thanks ;)

I'm not a pro, and have no experience covering gray - so someone else could probably be more helpful, (and I have no idea why they'd tell you to mix it with shampoo)....but if the problem is that it's too orange, in general I'd go for something with a blue base to counter it.  Either a toner or a dye.  If its not VERY orange though, this can be risky, so I would also do plenty of strand tests before I did anything to my head to make sure the timing was right and I didn't get anything funky.  Semi permanent shouldn't be too terribly damaging (of course, any chemical is damaging, but they have less of the bad stuff in them than the permanents).  Hopefully someone else will have more specific product advice for you.
