QuoteReplyTopic: Why Are Waves Popular? Posted: January 26 2005 at 10:45am
I FEEL THAT WAVES ARE POPULAR BECAUSE IT REPRESENTS A CLEAN CUT BLACK MAN. I BLACK MAN CAN OBTAIN A JOB AND RECEIVE A FEMALES NUMBA MUCH EASYA WIT A LOW CUT AND SOME DEEP WAVES THAN A NI99A WIT A FRO OR BRAIDS. TRY GETTIN A JOB AT A BANK OR SOME OTHER UP SCALE JOB WIT A CRAZY FRO OR ZIG ZAG BRAIDS. I BET YO APPLICATION WILL BE IN THE TRASH FASTER THAN YOU GET OUT THE DOOR. THE THINGS IM SAYIN MIGHT NOT BE FACT, BUT THEY SURE AS HELL AIN'T FICTION.

Dat necessarily aint true my nicca. It depends how u would look with a wave cut compared to braids. Like some kats might look coo wid da braids but look dumb as hell with a low cut. Yeah but i agree applying for a good job its a bonus to have a clean cut.

yes waves show a neatly cleaned black man. also because of the wide range style. you can be in a suit at your job in the day. n be at da club beside a hunny at night. and the waves fit right in. go to a job interview or meeting with zig zagz and i bet you'll zig zag home wit no job

Nice waves! I am so proud of what you wrote on both links. I have just learned to fall in love with my hair. It is very curly/ kinky, and I think it is awesome! It took a lot of engineering to come up with this unique head of hair! But I just want to propose an idea to you. I agree with the fact that our natural texture doesnt completely fit Americas beauty standards. But it seems to me like we, people of color, are our worst critics!! I have gotten many positive comments about my natural hair from people outside of my race. And its sad to say, but our people including my family have turned their noses up at the sight of my natural hair. Whats up with that? Has anyone else noticed this?

You see a brother with waves is hard to skip over. A man with waves stand out above the regular guys.
A black man's appearance is judged much harder than any other person. Why? Read the post titled The History of African American Hair.
Braids are very Afrocentric (pro black) so they are not always recieved as non-threatening. Eventhough braids, platts, and dreads are a part of our African heritage, we are sometimes forced into conforming to what Eurocentric values dictate is office (Corporate America) friendly.
