Thank you all for your encouragement....I'm glad to be here.
I have a question though. Has V05 recently come up with a more gentle formula??? My mother used to use it for all of us and stopped b/c it was harsh [her hair is beyond bra strap]
Also, I was so excited after joining last night that I went to the drug store to investigate...v05 does had sodium laurel sulfate [my mom told me that was a no no as well]...so is there a certain line of v05 that doesn't dave sls or dls??
Then I started looking into the oils b/c i'm interested in mixing them into my shampoos [is it ok to add to conditioner too??] Anyway, olive oil, african pride, bronner brothers [bb], profective all have their oil mixes, shoiuld we stray away from these only use pure oils [without the P___ and fragrance - - do those 2 ingred. make a diff, do you think they will react with certain ingred, in the shampoo? (big issue)] OR is it ok to use those brands when mixing w/shampoo?
My stylists here in boston have me on an essential oils regime by keracare [its nice but it costs a little bit much for me mix it in shampoo (but can we put a price on ourselves)] So if you all advise against the brands that i mentioned, i will just have to budget for more keracare...
thanks again ladies! [i'm so long-winded...i'll try to work on that]

GET READY LADIES:so here goes.... when i was young i got a press...unfortunately got a perm at the tender age of 9 [it was what all the girls at school were doing] Later learned that hair is not even mature until at least 12... after years of not being satisfied began to grow perm out at age 14 [took one year- didn't cut hair off- washed and deep conditioned weekly] mom and two sisters are all natural press i joined 7 years ago [i'm 201/2 now] the 1st year was rough but not too bad...conditioning really helped. at the end of one year, i had a new head of hair [literally] about neck/shoulder length...this was soph year in high school...
my hair grew at amazing rates [even though i didn't know grease was bad 4u then] however, i loved to play with scissors...every 3 months or so, i wacked my hair off but i never had split ends or anything..UNTIL the end of my soph year of college...by this time my hair was beyond shoulder trying to approach bra strap... i have thick, curly/coarse hair but its gorgeous, versatile, strong (used to be)... [my sisters have thick, wavy hair and mom has something in between me/sisters (wavier than mine)]
OKAY so i had this bright idea that if i wore my hair without pressing it as much (less heat) it would grow even more [only i didnt understand how dry ethnic hair is ] i wasnt getting enough moisture and i noticed some breakage [but not much] My hair was still shoulder length through junior year..Then in the spring semester i continued my usual wack-off hair cut regime [WHY? because it always grows back] only this time I havent sustained the growth as i usually do - i have to admit my hari grow very rapidly only this time the breaking rate is faster than the growth...and split ends have become a part of my life - Partly because a great hairCARE provider (not just stylist relocated and i havent found a good beautician - many stylists were killing my hair to straighten it rather than using lower heat, ceramic products etc)....
i'm a summer student at Harvard now, and ive found a great salon that really teaches CARE... they use great products, MOISTURIZE, use ceramic tools and proper technique, have me on an "essential oils" regimen, message my scalp etc...i'm concerned though b/c i'm moving back to Mississippi [home] for grad school and all hair salons are NOT "created equal"
I'm sorry for being so verbose (but i think that's a newbie perk - at least for their 1st message) Essentially, my main issue is that i've used thermal straightening inthe past without breakage [in fact with healthy, shiny, vibrant hair] How do I correct the past year of stylist damage, heat damage, senior year stress ( i KNOW that was an issue) etc??? People look at my hair and say it looks healthy, shiny, and soft etc...but i look closer...im not happy with seeing lighter ends and split ends when i look closely at indiv strands. I've been in this dry season for about 12 months now and i'm ready to get back to where i was and possibly better.. can ya help?? :)
Hi tiffiney and welcome! You sound like you've learned a lot about your hair over time. With this site you will definitely learn a lot more. Hope you enjoy your stay here and don't worry...the pic didn't show up.

Thank you sakura the sites would be very helpful. It is so hard to find the perfect shampoo and or co. As soon as you think you got it down pact you find out that your beloved shampoo has a no no ingredient in it. Also it seems hard to find the shapoo with all of the right ingredients in it. Renne I am with you at looking into the natural bar shampoos.

kenra shampoos have sodium myreth sulphate which is gentler than SLS. im in braids right now but im currently looking for natural shampoo bars without sulphates. no more sulphates for me
wel,, the pic didnt even show up on my cp,, lool
maybe thats a good thing,, jk,, anyhoo,, if ur doing ur
hair yourself,, try to use shampoos without sls like
neutrogena triple moisture,, so far i've had brilliant
results( just 2 weeks) and do ur own deep
conditioning treatments with plastic caps or bags.
This technique has worked for me.. Use hot oil and
always condition b4 shampoo hits your hair,.. dont
brush or comb too much,, dont sleep on cotton.
Imsure you've heard this stuff b4. Anyway the sulfate
thing is something i've learnd recently and i dont
think i will ever go back to shampoos containing
them... good luck.....
Hair type: 3b some c?, fine strands, last relaxer sept 05, never again!!! current :ap length on sides,,nearly bsl in back, damn those old frazzled ends! I am hair OBSESSED

OK thanks. If I do not like it I will try the herbal Line and will keep you all posted. I bought the honey and almond and it has sls. It is good to know that the herbal line does not have it

In my hunt for the Shampoo and conditoner I came across vo5 the honey and almond version and a lot of the ingredients were good Now the shampoo does have sls in it. ALso I notices that the more expensive one also have sls in it. Als was found in many other brands in which I belive to be the worst of the bunch. Has anyone or does anyone use V05brand products? I think I remember reading briefly that someone did post back but it is rarely mentioned on this site. I was just wondering if it was good to use on type 4a hair. TIA
