Hey, I am also new to the board and would like to join in. I thinking about growing out my perm. But I have really short hair. Its only 1/2 long in the back and 1 1/2 in the front, so I know its going to be rough growing out the perm with my hair being so short. Also I'm trying to keep heat out of my hair. Does anyone know of some styles I can wear my short hair during this process?
Oh, here is my regimen:
Wash once a week with Design Essentials organic cleansing shampoo and Moisture Conditioning shampoo.
Condition once a week with Design Essentials Super Moisturizing Conditioner (or whatever its called)
I mold my hair with Paul Mitchell Hair Sculpting lotion
I'm trying to keep heat out of my hair but its hard with short hair, so I curl it once a week.
And I use Kera Kare Jojoba Oil for extra moisture.

I hope I got everyone. So far there is 38 of us. Not bad! Here is how my July has been:
I relaxed on July 7th with Vitale Relaxer. (I really like this one.) I used heat the the 8th because of my art show but since then I haven't. I experienced some shedding for a month or two so I tried a homemade egg recipe and it reduced it some. Last week I grabbed a sample of Aphogee Reconstructor and it knocked out my shedding almost immediately. I have been washing 2 to three times a week with shampoo once and conditioner washes twice a week. I've been bouncing between Nature's Gate, Aubrey Organics, and NTM Recovery Mask. I moisturize with Hollywood Beauty's Olive Oil Creme and braid my hair into two braids on each side. When it's dry, I take it down and wear it wavy. For work I put it up into a bun. Other than that the only other thing to report is that I've made my July deadline-I wanted to halfway to brastrap and I am! Now, by December, I hope to at or right above brastrap. Hopefully the cold fall air up here will have mercy on me this year!!
Noni juice is used just as an all around health benefit. It helps everything from hormonal problems to cancer (I know a woman who went through both. She started drinking it and is now in remission.) It isn't just for sickness but it has alot of good preventative qualities. Not sure about hair though.
Layla, what is your hair routine now? What kind of comb or brush are you using? How are you wearing your hair?
I thought maybe I was washing my hair too often so now I'm only going
to wash every 6 days. I rinse in between if I exercise though. I use a
wide tooth comb and I don't really use a brush unless I'm blow drying
my hair. I usually just wear my hair in a bun.

[QUOTE=Layla]I'm not sure. I've always had breakage in the front but it seems like I might be getting it in the back too. What should I do?
You mentioned "usually" wearing your hair in a bun. That may be contributing to the breakage if you wear it a lot that way and your hair is too tight or you're using rubber bands or hair ties w/ metal connectors. Buns are great for protective styling, but you do have to switch up to other styles or switch the position of the bun frequently to avoid breakage. Also keeping the ends moist and not "bunching" up your hair under the bun if wearing a phony one. I normally pull my hair back in a loose ponytail, braid my hair, wrap around the tie and secure w/ a coated bobby pin b4 putting on phony bun. Or if wearing my own hair I secure w/ a loose tie & bun or w/ chopsticks.
I agree with Browneyez. I'm not a crazy about buns or ponytails. They seem to work excellent for some, but I have no luck with them. My sister wore her hair in a ponytail for ten years and she has breakage and thinning hair in the front because of it. Maybe switching up and making sure your not manipulating that area too much will help.

Sorry I was not more specific but the Noni Juice is not to be used on hair, only for drinking. I was curious if anyone has known it to actually work for your health overall.

Has anyone wore wigs as a protective style and had success with it, or not??
Hey guys, I am a newbie to this post but have been reading your messages. You guys are great. In the question regarding wearing wigs. I have been growning my hair out for a year now, due to breakage from a weave (lost hair at top of my head, scalp irritation). I am been using the Doo Grow Products (shampoo, deep conditioner, root stimulator) once a week and it have help me tremediously. Before the top of my head was balded, now you can't tell until I tilt my head or if I part it on the sides. So that I could give my scalp time to heal and the hair to grow back, I wear 100% human hair wigs. They are great, but you have to maintained them just like your hair. They are great to wear in the winter months because they keep your head warm But in the Summer, you have to deal with the high humidity and extra weight on your head. It get really hot here in Texas. I don't know what to put on the wig to keep it from frizzing up , so if you have any suggestions that would be great. My hair is really growing but not enough IMO to stop wearing the wig (vanity thing). I trim and perm my own hair (10 weeks on the perms, and 4 to 6 weeks on the tirm), because I haven't gotten that confidence to trust a hairstylist just yet.
Keep of the good works ladies and I look forward to reading your updates
