QuoteReplyTopic: Talkes Slippage W/Hairpolice Posted: September 23 2005 at 6:50pm
I mentionned a while back that I had a pinchbraid client on whom I did a super tight install, that I was keyed about. It looked cleaner than any work I'd ever done and was a really nice install in my opinion.
I can't say offhand how many installs I've done, but I did the training in Oct. of last year, so not too many.
Anyway, within some really short time period, every single one of the buggers slipped out. Someone suggested talking to hairpolice to see what they said.
So, I finally got around to it and the reply, (i'm hoping I paraphrase in a worthwhile way. Basically she said when the hair is really slippery it just doesn't work.
Initially I was like "thanks,,,,(bee---hotch)"
But I did a pinchbraid install on a chick with ridiculously knackered hair on wed. And those braids just tightened right up like nobodies business. I was actually comforted by the reply, because those Hairpolice chicks aren't liars like so many others in this business.
So, I guess the conclusion (which we've all come to by now) is that no one method is right for everyone, you've got to have two or three under your belt. But for the chick with stupidly damaged hair, pinchbraiding is the safest and a pretty secure option.
What I find helps on slippery hair is spray a little bit of water on
the end of the human extension hair(not the clients hair), on the
clients hair I spray a bit of hairspray(but not too much just a
little)and then braid it in. I find it goes in better and stays in
better. Slippery hair and slippery extension hair(like bohyme) is a
tricky combo to do. I also find that doing smaller braids all around
helps alot with slippery hair.
I have yet to have a client complain about slippage. Even the ones that I think are going to slip. *knock on wood*

No! I haven't tried it with PH or other mono-filiments. I haven't had
any problems with them. I find mono-filiment to be really easy to
install with fine slippery hair. I just use smaller sections and
smaller peices of synth hair, thats all. I just find that a little mist
of water on the bohyme hair makes it a little more plyable.
What I have done on installs with pinchbraids, it to use a few drop of the prostik on the braid. Prostik is the spirit gum drops that Prohair sells to use in their heat seal process.
Thanks you all. Julie, I have noticed that using hairspray only works if you put it on either the extension hair or the section from the head but not both... so there must be something to what you are saying.
Metalgirl. I really want to try the spirit gum... I'm just having a hard time getting some. I've only seen it in a liquid gold format (in a bottle with a brush) and it seems like it would be a nightmare to apply. I need to order some and check that out. thanks

Spirit gum is used in theater to attach fake beards and mustaches, fake noses, things like that. Oh yeah, and pasties. So you should be able to find it at a costume store. It comes in a bottle with a brush but you can also buy it in larger sizes in those metal cans with no brush. You could put it in a small squeeze bottle with a tiny opening at the end and try using it while you're pinchbraiding that way.
