Have you considered using more than one conditioner? If you buy a cheap silicone-free conditioner from the drugstore, such as Suave Naturals or V05 Moisture Milks varieties, you can use it as an "extra conditioning step" between your usual shampoo and conditioner. It would be a WCC or "Wash, Condition, Condition".
Another consideration is the kind of shampoo you are using. The more heavy-duty the active cleanser, the drier your hair will be. The cleansers are listed right after water, or "aqua", on the shampoo bottle's ingredient list. Keep in mind there may be more than one.
Heavy duty cleansers: Sodium lauryl sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, ammonium laureth sulfate. Gentlest cleansers: Sodium laureth sulfate (note the -eth), anything beginning with the abbreviation T.E.A.
Hope this helps! I also have thick coarse hair, though probably not as wavy. Using multiple conditioners has helped me so much.
I have really dry hair through chemical damage combined with previous illness, radiotherapy and menopause ( Poor hair!!!) and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a really good treatment, leave-in or otherwise, that I could use. I have thick, course, wavy hair and this is why I have asked on this forum. I have already tried Redken extreme anti-snap ( which has no effect at all) and I have tried Farouk bio-silk therapy ( which is good but dries the hair even more). I need a really good moisturising treatment as my hair is so thirsty. I would really appreciate some advice to aid my hair back to some recovery. Many thanks
