Really...what happened?

I think I mentioned somewhere already that my hairdresser's salon has two specialists in extensions and they've offered me whatever I want for free.  I am going in tonight and was planning to investigate the possibility of extensions.  How did they damage your hair?  Could the damage have been avoided?

Well i had hair to about two inches below sholders when i had my extentions put in.
It's very hard to brush your hair when you have extentions in and when you have washed it it's even worse, and it takes forever to dry. I guess most of my damage came from trying to sort out the mess after showers and the brushing/ combing hair part. Then when i had them taken out half of my normal hair went along with it. And I had many knotts afterwards..

But on the other hand i think longhairdreams has/had extentions and i think she likes/liked them.

If your hairdresser knows what she's doing im sure she'll do a good jobb, there is however always some damage after extentions.
Hopefully not as much as i got..

First, I am very sorry to hear about what happened to you, trophywife.  Something doesn't quite compute with this chap.  He cut off most of the length, without confirming with you that that's what you wanted, and then expressed regret?  It's very hard for me not to imagine that his regret was feigned.

If nothing else, this particular stylist just did himself and stylists everywhere a disservice, potentially losing a customer for life.

Baker46, I will agree that it seemed odd for trophywife to post a similar message in the short hair forum, but your post here is inconsistent with the supportive nature of this forum.

Thanks Dave and Vicky and everyone.

Not going with extensions after all; after Vicky's story I went into the salon last night as planned and chatted to one of the extension guys there and he was like basically don't do them unless you have to because even the very best ones will damage your hair to some extent, plus, if you want it to look good you'll probably want to trim off an inch or two of your real hair when they're taken out, which is obviously NOT what I want to do because I want my hair to grrrrrrrrrrow!  Hehe.  So we both agreed to leave it with the extensions.

My own stylist has not been well (he texted me saying he had avian 'flu!) so I am seeing him to see whether he can do anything new to the back of my hair (it has started to stick up a little bit) tomorrow night as I have the big Christmas party on Friday and must look perfect for that :)

Yes...thanks Vicky.  Sorry to hear about your ordeal with the extensions!  Why did you decide to get them in the first place?

Avian flu?!  The World Health Organization has not reported any human cases of avian flu in France...this one is full of it!  I don't know if I would trust him enough to go back to him, but it is your choice.  Good luck and I hope it works out well whatever you have done.

No he hasn't really got it but everyone here is using it as a synonym for colds, coughs, etc.

He is a good guy, I trust him, I think!

I got them because i was bored with my short hair and because my sister knew how to put them in, she also had extentions and i thought they looked nice on her. She took them out not long after I did, for the same reasons I did.

trophywife, I'm so sorry to hear about your hair.  But with great care and minimal trimming, it will grow back much faster than you think.  And like Anais said, enjoy your short hair while you've got it!  You don't know how much I (and many other people on this forum, I'm sure) would love to have short hair for a day... if only one could go from pixie length to classic length in a week!

But anyway, getting back to the point.  Try to accept and enjoy it, and before you know it your hair will be longer than it was before!
