QuoteReplyTopic: New to the waves. Posted: December 16 2005 at 2:06pm
Wudup, I just started now browsing about waves, I had no idea there was even a community solely dedicated to waves and their perfection. For a while now i've been doing my own thing, i'm still fairly new due to the fact that I have no method or strategy.
Up til now I had no idea that waves could get so serious, I saw waves beyond belief browsing these forums for the last four hours, learning as much as I possibly could. I went to the hair supply store and bought everything I needed before I even bothered posting here. I already got the Hollywood Beauty Carrot Creme, Sportin Waves Gold, Let's Jam (green top), and one soft and one hard brush.
Hopefully with some guidance from the community, i'll be deep wave spinnin. I'm 100% African, born in Nigeria, my hair is really curly and naturally nappy (from what I've read that's sort of a good thing, but it's also difficult to get my hair to lay down) I hope with taking the right steps, before wednesday (when I travel back to Texas), my waves will be official.

yo wat good my dude welcome to da site, any problems u can talk to anyone here on da site, ya waves is fresh my dude, keep doin wat u do
sticking wit da soft brush is a good choice because they make ya waves straight, lay ya hair down better than any type of brush.
Save da hard for when ya hair is long, but still use da soft with da hard. like brush for 10 mins wit da hard and then 10 wit da soft
u can try using water to get ya waves in quicker because it makes ya hair curl but u say u already have curly hair so it would make ya hair softer so da brush is mre effective on ya head. put water on one side of ya section of ya head and brush it for 10mins wit a soft brush, never use a hard brush wit water cause u to bald. then repeat on anothet section of ya head until u do ya whole head

I'm also curious as to what type of doorag and/or stocking cap I should be using. I've been using stocking caps recently, Titan Platinum. They've been working wonderfully too. Though i'd rather here from you experts on what works best, du-rags or stocking caps.
I now see what i've been doing wrong, I always thought, short hair = better deeper waves. That's why my waves never got to the deep level, i've always kept it short and never grew it above 2 weeks. But I remember one time when I did keep it in for 3-4 weeks and they were like never before, beautiful waves. I can't wait to see major progress.
yeah growing ya hair out get ya waves deeper, for like 3-4 weeks is good
i say watever u think works better for u because we on dis site, or anywhere else dont have ya hair as u do,only u can tell use wat works for u, we can jus recommand things for u . so try using ya stocking cap one day, then da other day use ur du-rag and decides wat works better for u
sometimes experiementing is da only way u can get ya answers

welcome to the site man. as far as gettin ur hair to lay down, du rags work the best. better than wave caps. you might also want to try wetting ur du rag at night when u go to sleep. that way it can dry overnight.
i use spartan du rags. they come in yellow packages. i like those the best cuz they have smooth fit technology. its like the same material of a wave cap, only in du rag form.
you remind me of myself when i first joined. i had read through the threads non stop, and i didnt know waves were that serious either. plus on top of that, u came as a newbie postin pix just like me and ill i can say is not too shabby theres always room for improvement, and ull learn alot here
traveling to texas huh? i live in texas and so does BIGGMike. texas holdin it down
Yeah I used to live in Missouri City TX, now in Fresno (Teal Run, one block away from Hightower High School) where my mother resides. Just visiting for Christmas this year.
That spartan Du-rag you speak of, if possible would you mind posting a link of it? So I can check out the beauty supply store and buy it. I also just read another topic earlier where someone showed a couple of Spartan Stocking Caps, I thought that was the way to go for a second, but i'll gladly try both of Spartan's products (du-rag as well as stocking cap).
Thanks again for the help, it's well appreciated.
