I am so happy to finally have this technique done! I love the look and I loved the girls :)

There are a few issues I hope you can help with though:

First, my head is FULL of sores from the hair being pulled so tight! It is itching like crazy and is actually worse than having tracks! And I mean I have a ton of sores-big ones! I was under the impression that pinchbraids were to be less stressful to the hair and scalp and that there was virtually no pain? Can anyone share their experience? Could it be a "heavy handed" stylist or is this just what I can expect each time?

The other problem I have is that the braids are just too high up for me to hide! Trial and error, so next time I know. Is it easy to take them out myself though? Just the ones that are visable!

Besides the pain and itching, I do love them. If they last with no slipping and no damage, this is my new extension technique!

If you have sores, that's not a good thing.  The itching should go away within  a few days.  It's your scalp's reaction to the tension of the braids.

For the itching, try putting some witch hazel or Sea Breeze astringent on a cotton ball and patting it on the itchy areas.

If you truely have sores, you may need to have the extensions removed though.  I would just watch it carefully for the next day or two.

Are you scratching your itchies?? If so, Stop!! If you scratch them it will make it worse. I agree with what Metalgirl said 100%.

When I have any type of extensions in I itch like a mother !@#$R% for the first two weeks, no matter what.... sensitive scalp. Everyone reacts to extensions differently.

If you see lots of white hair folicle bulbs popping out, then take them out. Go back to your stylist to have them removed tho. Do NOT do this yourself!!

Thanks gurls...

Yes I have sores but no, I'm trying not to scratch them! I usually get track extensions so I am used to the first week usually feeling "too tight" and itchy, but even with that type of extension, I don't think I've EVER gotten this many sores! I think I can stick this out till everything "loosens" up but I'm not sure I want to go through this every time and thats why I was asking if this was normal with pinchbraids?! I thought it wasn't supposed to be this way and if thats so, I think I should try a different stylist next time? Sounds like you girls are saying this shouldn't be happening to this extent, so Monday I am hoping to hear back from the company with their suggestions.

And you think it's too hard for me to try to take some of the visible ones out myself huh?

Thanks for your input! I don't know anyone who has ever had this kind of extension!

Hey Haircrazed,  congragulations on your pinchbraids.... try taking benedryl for those itchy bumps, and I second the recomendation for seabreeze. It feels heavenly.

I would like to say, as a pinchbraid practitioner, that I don't think you should remove them yourself, even the top ones, because it's too easy to cut off the whole thing.  It will also be much faster to have your person cut them out.

Also, do you mind saying where you got them done and what kind of hair you used and how you styled it?  Thanks.

could you be having a reaction to the hair or maybe something that was used in the braiding process( lotion, spray?)...just a possibility.

I will try to post pics - maybe tomorrow

Where do I buy this Sea Breeze? The stuff for your face?

I guess I don't have a problem saying where I went, because I think the "problems" I'm having are able to be rectified next time because I can relay these issues to them. I'm not trying to badmouth at all!

So...I went through HairPolice and had it done while they were in SF - part of the problem is that they are only there every 2 months! Which is why I was asking about taking some out myself instead of waiting 2 months!

I use His and Her cuticle hair, and I always use this kind for the track extensions. I use the silky straight and just flat iron my hair with this hair to blend it.

Lastly, I don't think its an allergic reaction to anything, only because I HAVE gotten sores before and I know it's common to be itchy, and I know this is from how tight the hair is pulled to do the weave! I just have more sores than I've ever experienced and I thought the experience would leave me feeling more like I just had fusion - with not so much tugging on my scalp?

I've been wearing pb's for years and I've never had that happen because my stylist never braids them tight.  If I were in your situation I would take them out.  Sores mean that damage is occurring to your follicles and scalp.  Don't use scissors - use nail clippers and clip the knot where the string is tied, then pick at the string and the strand should come out.

Thanks for the tips on how to remove them Lynn

I'm glad to hear that your stylist does not do them tight, because now I know that they don't HAVE to be done this way and I will inquire until I find someone who doesn't pull so tight!

When I remove pinchbraids, I like to use a seam ripper to cut the thread.  Just be careful, of course.

seam ripper is a great idea!

And I agree with taking them out.  One or 2 sores is one thing, everyone has spots on their scalp which is more sensitive then others, but if you have a lot then your hair will probably start coming out at the root.

SeaBreeze is a facial astringent you can get at most any drugstore. If there is a sally beauty supply near you, they have a few products to help with scalp itch and irritation just ask the lady at the counter for help.

I also just noticed that head and shoudlers (or one of the dandruff shampoo makers) came out with a lotion for itchy/tight scalp. I saw it in riteaid last night.

I had microbraids once that were done too tight...alot of sores and crying.  It's a miserable experience :( I totally feel for ya.
