QuoteReplyTopic: HELP! First time extension user....... Posted: December 20 2005 at 11:06pm
I had my bonded wefts put in Friday afternoon and its Tuesday and they are really dry and coarse feeling. I used Premier Yaki 100% human hair and the texture was very silky starting off but now my hair is very dry and dead looking. It keeps tangling up and just doesnt look or feel good at all. Not to mention my scalp is super sore!
I have been taking VERY good care of them. I havent washed them but one time since I got them Friday. She told me to try to not wash them but every 2-3 days. I wash them as directed as far as not rubbing or anything during washing. I tried getting some Frizz Ease type spray and putting on the ends of my hair but no change. It looks like someone who has really really fried dead ends! Why is my hair doing this? Is it something Im not doing right, something to do with the brand of hair, or whats going on?? Is there a better brand that will last longer as far as the texture and all of it?
She told me my extensions would last 2-3 weeks 3 maybe 4 if I took REALLY good care of them and I thought I was but something isnt right! I look like a wirery broom! PLEASE HELP! My wefts are still in really good! One I did take out that was at the nape of my neck sort of and it was very painful and kept knotting up. Here is a few pics. My hair looks greasy because of the frizz serum I put on it to try and calm the frizzies! PLUS my husband told me today that in the light outside you can see my wefts on top my head. Is that because my hair was so short or is that because she put them too close to the top of my hair part? The person who put mine in has done it for several years but being this is the first time I have ever had extensions Im paranoid!!!
PS will the glue she used to put my wefts on damage my hair/scalp? Not sure of the name of it but the glue is black and kinda rubbery. ANY info would be great!
HERE IS PICS

Yeah it does look like she put the wefts up a bit too high at the back. If you have fine hair it can be difficult to conceal them when they're that high up. My hair is dark and thick and I can put the wefts about an inch from my part without any visibility problems at the front, but the back I always leave a little lower.
Perhaps you're having problems with the texture of the hair becuase it's yaki, which is relaxed afro texture I believe? But even if you use silky straight european texture hair, it will probably tangle and feel dry very quickly if it isn't good quality hair, no matter how well you treat it. I personally think remy hair is the only hair worth using, if you want it to last longer than a week.
I'm curious why your extensionist used Yaki. Your natural hair looks very straight, fine, and shiny. I thought the Yaki texture was meant to look like straightened african hair, so the rough texture of the hair is intended.
I think, given your fine hair, that the wefts are probably too high. I would stay about 1 1/2" to 2" from the part. But, you can also try to lightly tease your hair just above the weft and spray it to hide it better.

So the Yaki is relaxed african american hair? Hmm I was wondering why several of the other ladies in the whop where saying they use the exact same hair for their extensions. Im pretty sure she doesnt do alot of white girls hair because this is a very small town and I have nevet met another white girl here that gets extensions. We only have one small store that sells the extensions and wigs but they do have different types of hair there. So what should I ask for specifically?? I have very find silky thin hair, my natural hair color is a strawberry blonde but I have it died black at the moment and would like to have extensions that match my dark black hair but with either blonde or red chuncks, OR hair that is black but half way down it is red or blonde all the way to the ends.
She did put my wefts up rather far on top my head but my hair is very short. My hair is about 1/2 in in the back and at the nape of the neck. My hair on top is about 3-4 inches but very very fine.
This is the first experience I have with extensions but I already know that I am HOOKED on them! Its amazing that I can go from almost no locks to long locks in an hour.
So I need European hair? Do you reccomend any online sources to buy the hair I need? Im almost sure I cant get the high quality hair I need around here. Anybody know of any salons that do the Shrinkies in Western KY area? Can I get shrinkies with my short hair and they look better than the wefts? What is my best choice as far as what mehtod to go with?
THanks Im sorry I have so many questions. Im very concerned about my new hair and the more I condition it the greasier my real hair is becoming. They wefts arent coming out yet but my real hair normally gets washed every day, sometimes twice because it tends to go really greasy on me fast!
Is there a product to remove the glue when these do come out of when I do decide to take them out? I havent read on the board about taking out glued in wefts. I took the one out but the glue was HARD to get out. She didnt mention if there were any glue removers etc for it. Its a black rubbery type glue not sure of the name.
THANKS AGAIN!

is that the type of hair I need for my silky straight hair? She used 12 inch Yako b1/27 this time but the texture is so course and now is very tangly and wirery. I can get the Bohyme 14 for $90.00 for 1/4th lb. Is that enough to do my hair? She used one whole bag of the Yaki. How much is in a bag? Im so extension stupid I havent a clue about how much is in a bag, the weights etc. I need Extensions for DUMMIES! lol

Can shrinkies be done on short hair with the great results you girls all have? Would it be wise to get the
Salon Kit Without Hair/ $99.99
Includes: #3 Fusion wand, 1200 Premium Standard Shrinkies, Small, Medium & Large Needle Threader, Instruction Sheet + FREE 2 oz Shrinkies Residue Remover
kit and try to do it myself at home? I dont know a single salon around here that does the shrinkies. Im not going to pay some person $$$ for them to experienment on my head when I can do that myself at home.

I have used that bohyme hair and can recommend it. You'll notice the difference. If you're using a relatively short length (12 or 14") then 1 pack (4oz) should be enough to do your whole head. It is for me.
I think you'll find doing the shrinkies yourself tricky, as a beginner. I've read people here say wefts are better than individual strand methods for hiding short hair anyway, as the weft acts as a 'curtain' to cover your real hair.
It sounds like your hair is just like mine - baby fine and stick straight. When I grow it long, it just looks stringy.
I haven't found the best method for extensions and the best hair to use for our type of hair yet. I think it's just going to take some experimentation.
I'm so used to the soft, silky feeling of my own hair, that I'm really bothered by course, thick extension hair. It just doesn't feel right and gets itchy on my head. I've only tried synth and asian hair, though. I'm going to try indian hair next. I've had sewn in wefts, pinchbraids, and shrinkies. I think the pinchbraids were the most comfortable (but I hated the cheap synth hair that I had with them). I'm going to try bonded wefts next.
I hate the feeling of going out and worrying about whether anyone can tell if I have extensions or see the bonds.
You can definitely do shrinkies yourself. It just takes some practice. You don't need the salon kit - just get the individual kit. That's what I used. It worked great.
I don't know about the hair. If you buy a weft, you'll have to pre-tip to do shrinkies, though.

Yea that was me the first day I went out in public with it. I felt like everyone was staring at me and snicking about me. My husband said I was just paranoid. Im not used to my hair being long so I keep popp'n it and like stroking it lol Im DEFINATLY loving it long. Its been years since its been this long and when mine was this long it was so fine and limp it didnt have any body at all. I feel like everyone that looks at me is thinking" LOOK HER HER WEFTS/EXTENSIONS" lolol which they probably arent but Im so self concious about them right now.
I know I will continue to use extensions as long as I can get them in a much better texture and quality next time. I want to grow my own hair out this length but Ill probably still use some sort of extensions to make my baby fine hair looks much thicker and fuller.
I do like the bonding method because so far they are still hanging in strong but my scalp is sore around the wefts. Is this normal? Maybe the glue she used isnt working for me? I just wish my extensions was still the silky feel and look they had the day I got them. I thought I was doing something really wrong in the care of them. Whats so bad is the longer I wait to wash my hair my own hair gets more shiny and more greasy looking and then it really doesnt blend well with the coarse dry extensions. Im afraid to wash it more than she told me because I dont want them to get lose and start to sag.
Any website links on DIY of bonding wefts?? Id love to learn how to do my own extensions to save on money and time. It didnt take her long to do it about 45 minutes so she was very quick. Im pretty good at doing my own hair as far as color etc so if I had a good website with instructions I know I could do it myself.

Also, if you're going with the wefts, the pro-tack tape is worth looking into, much less messy than glue, and some ladies here are having lots of success with it. There's a tutorial at shrinkies.net, where you can also buy the tape -
I would highly recommend using the Pro-tack tape method. If you order hair from Amms site, she has several to chose from, she even has hair on sale that you could color to match. I would buy the pro-tack tape set which includes enough tape and remover to do one install and get some GOOD hair, I think you would be in heaven!!
I just installed mine last week and it is fab!! The tape method is so easy to work with and a breeze to remove. I believe that Amm has had her tape in 6 weeks so far, and it still is going good.
The type of glue that your stylist used is a latex glue and it will NOT hold up very long!! Mine only held up for 1 day when I used it, and I also installed crappy a$$ hair, so it was a complete mess by day 2. When installing the wefts, becareful on how high you put them, mine are about 3" from the part line because I have such fine/thin hair and I have never had any exposure, even during windy days.
Amm's site shrinkies.net has a toutorial explaining how to put the tape wefts in, and if you need pics I would be willing to show how mine are placed.
I would definatly start with DIY tape, then after you get used to working with putting stuff on the back of your head, venture onto shrinkies or other methods. For me, I am sticking to the tapes, the coverage is just superior for me with my fine/thin hair. When I installed shrinkies, I had alot of "piecyness" with my hair, maybe it was the hair used or the installation, but I am in love with the tape method, why try anything else????
Good luck, and order some good hair quick before you have to go a day without long hair!!!
Some latex glues hold up very well, it just depends on the brand. The www.chrissyv.com glue is latex, and it has held in my client's hair for up to 12 weeks without getting loose at all.
The Chrissy V glue is the only kind of bond I like to use for weft bonding. It's long lasting and is also pretty easy to get out of the hair.
With hair as short as baby gurlz, I don't think it was a mistake to put the wefts high on the head. When hair is that short, you need to put the wefts really high to avoid the 'hair hat' look. I personally like to wear my wefts high on the head and as far forward in front as possible to get a more realistic blend and also have more extension hair falling forward to blend my front layers.
It was an absolute mistake to use Yaki hair on you though! I am very happy with the Bohyme from www.superhairfactory.com . If I were you, I'd purchase my own hair online and bring it to the appointment.
If you want to attempt to do this yourself, then liquid gold is a good bond that unlicensed people can buy and it'w quite affordable. The chrissy v is expensive and I'm not sure if unlicensed people can buy it.
Okay after 1 stinkin week my hair was so tangled, thick and frizzy I couldnt bare it any longer and took them out! OUCH! Bad mistake. I took alot of my own hair trying to get the darn things out! Those wefts were really bonded in there GOOD! I wasnt told about any glue removed etc so I had to soak my head in conditioner and pull the suckers off. Very painful process. SO after all that last night Im back depressed with my super short, baby fine locks today. I dont want to go long with this short hair so Im ready to buy some GOOD quality hair online and have her install it.
Now I went back to the only hair care place in my town that ahs hair for sale and he reccomended some silky straight hair in 1b no high lights just matching my own hair color. It looks much finer and straighter than the hair I had installed but looks can be deceiving. The other hair looked nice until a few days later too. He doesnt carry any other types of hair such as lush, Bohyme etc and caters mainly to african american clients so should I try this other hair he is reccomending for me, or buy online??
Also would it be in my best interest to use a solid color hair to match my own instead of the piano effect?? Will it help hide the wefts being it is the same color as my roots etc? I used the 1b-27 last time and the blonde really showed through at the wefts at the top. I do think I need the wefts high on my head because if not Ill get the mullett look. Any comments or info??
Here is the AWEFUL pics of me today. I cant live with this short hair! See how fine and limp it is. Also where can Iget GOOD QUALITY silky straight hair in this color. #T1B/330 - Off Black / Fire Red

I think most people here have suggeted avoiding hair from the local
beauty stores as what you can get online is of a much better quality.
Extensions-plus.com has nice wefted hair in a wide variety of colors.
