QuoteReplyTopic: # of strands in "full install" ??? Posted: December 29 2005 at 12:13pm
Maybe this topic has been dealt with before but I cannot locate the thread...in any event, how many strands ( or how many ounces) do you consider to be a "full" install, "3/4" install etc...
I know Tangles had mentioned 200 strands....I'm assuming this is 18" or 20" hair??? Also, do you price per strand? or per ounce?
All suppliers' pre-tipped strands are different in thickness and weight so until you've installed a full head you won't know how many you need, weighing them sometimes doesn't work, better to have too much than too little, you can always carry over.
I charge as above £250.00 for 14 or 18inch hair full head and 22inch hair £300.00 I don't mark up the hair and I don't charge per strand, I include free aftercare between install to the three month mark and provide the extension brush. If someone wants streaks etc I charge for the hair without mark up and then £25 an hour install fee.
To work out the cost of a 1/2 head or 3/4 head you need to have a good look at the client's head, it may sound funny but some people have a big head, some medium and some small. I have one client who has a small head who I only use 4oz 18inch on for a full head install. I usually say one pack of hair 4oz is a 3/4 head install and half a head is 2-3 ounce but like I say it depends on the size of their head. I always advise my clients that they can't go anymore on the length with 1/2 a head, 1/2 a head is just for thickness, I charge £150 for half a head and £175 for 3/4 xx
She is right. Depending on the client consultation you can determine how much hair. The standard amount is 200 for a full head, but depending on the thickness and width of a persons head it is better to have more hair than not enough.

Amanda - Thanks so much! This makes sense...I have been determining cost on a client by client basis but have also put some prices on my website as a guide for clients.
