Hello all... I am a newbie and I have a ton of questions. First, I have had my hair braided for years and I am now ready to take them out. I recently purchased the Sedu flat iron and I used it on my hair today but it did not straighten my hair all the way. My hair was very soft but it lacked body and it was totally not straight. I have not used any perms or relaxers in my hair now for ten years. I really would like to stay away from them if at all possible. I would like my hair to get as straight as it did when I had relaxers in but I am very scared to use them again. I had my hair done professionally and when the relaxer was put in, most of my shoulder length hair broke off and then I just decided to just braid it. For now, I braided my hair back up until I can get some help with this :-( I have been using on my hair Fantasia Braid Sheen Spray and Infusim 23 leave in conditioner. I wash my hair twice a week and I use the 2 other products on my hair every day and on my scalp every other day. I also deep condition my hair about every 2-3 weeks. When I used the Sedu ceramic iron, I used the Doo Gro Triple Strength Anti-Breakage Growth Lotion. Also, my other problem is my ends. I have been using Tea Tree oil on them and I was told to use some other Doo Gro products to help them come in better and stronger. What products would you guys suggest I use on my ends to help them come in and my other question is are any of you getting super straight hair without using a relaxer? I would love to know what products that you suggest that I use in order to tackle getting my hair as straight as possible without having to use the ceramic iron on it every day since I know this is not good for the hair. Also, would any of you suggest that I leave the braids in until the ends come in a little bit better or take them out? Please help this newbie!! Thank you for any and all of advice :-)

First of all welcome to the forum Misty. I would definitely suggest the Maxiglide flat iron for you! It is the best flat iron I've ever used and it gets my super curly hair pin straight! I just love it . I have pics in my fotki album under maxiglide and I also have pics of my hair before using it. My hair is definitely straighter than when I had a relaxer and it lasts until I shampoo it out and I don't have to use heat on it daily, only when I shampoo. I use Beyond the Zone heat protectant also, and on my ends I mostly use shea butter.

thanks for welcoming me-) I had the maxiglide at one point in time and I took it back to the store because I heard the Sedu was better. I bought my Sedu from folica about a couple of weeks ago but it doesn't straigthen my hair as well as the maxiglide did. I will try the Beyond the Zone heat protectant to see how that works. How oftern do you shampoo your hair and deep condition ? I am trying to get my regimen down for my hair care before I take these braids out. I am getting kinda anxious here

I shampoo or co wash every week and a half and deep condition monthly, sometimes twice a month. I also do protein treatments once a month. I heard the sedu was good also but I'm definitely sold on the maxiglide.
i have two flat irons a wigo and a jilbere de Paris Ceramic Tools Porcelain - professional vented flat iron ( Use on wet to dry hair). I love the second one the best it is easier to use and really provides great results- i got it at sally's beauty supply for $39.99 .

thanks carameldiva for the advice. I am taking my braids out in a couple of days and if the Sedu doesn't work for me, I will try the Jilbere. I went to Sally's the other day and manager there told me about that flat iron :-) I am wondering if I should just send this thing back and just get the Jilbere lol. I just gotta find my packing slip :-) thanks again for the help ladies :-)
Welcome to the board! I would have to 2nd what the others said about maxiglide, I just got it and I used the steam method to straighten my hair pin straight! Me personally I do not like the Doo gro hair line it just sits on my hair and is not moisturizing at all. I don't use any particular hair line on my hair but I love Motions and Kiehls shampoo and conditioner, for my ends I use Parnevu t-tree oil (in the applicator no petroleum or mineral oil) and moisturize daily with Netrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave in. Vitamin E oil used sparingly can help thicken your edges. Good luck!

I still haven't taken these braids out yet because of the holidays. I have 2 kids and a husband running around here and today I finally get this stuff out. 2 of the 3 are gonig back back to work and school!! Yippee!!
