If you must buy a wig, be sure not to order it through the mail. Buy it in person at a store. Some wigs look gorgeous, and you put it on, and it just doesn't fit your face, or it looks too fake. So always try to go where you can try it on.
Also, for black women (and this is just my personal opinion), curly or somewhat frizzy wigs are best because they look more natural than really straight wigs.
You want people to say, "your hair looks nice, where do you get it done?"
Not, "nice wig."

patience is definitely a virtue yes, when it comes to our hair, our pride and glory, the only thing we can do is treat it right, get really great advice from others, and be patient. I can't stand being patient!! Yes, if your boyfriend truly loves you, he will stand beside you while the hair issue is being worked on. Yes, I do remember the days of the braids lol. It would take 8 hours for them to dry but at the same time it helped my hair grow so much. Black hair media has a ton of tips on how to apply the MTG in your hair. Definitely get a good look at that site and do a search on MTG. I haven't gone to LHCF yet because black media has so much information. Keep me posted on the MTG progress
You know my co-workers say I'm crazy....there like, I don't see anything.......ahahahahahaha...maybe it is my imagination but I know I got some thinning goin' on. I'm looking forward to trying the MTG after I get a good washing and see. Thanks so much for you advice and kind words. I never was a so caught up w/ my hair until I noticed some thinning......Lawd Lawd Lawd!!!!!!! I know y'all don't know me...but I can be a little obsessive compulsive when it comes to my looks.....I gotta stay flyyyyyyyyy!!!!

I know where you are coming from Nychaela I have been married 8 years and my husband has finally seen my real hair. He loves it better than the braids I have been sporting. Your routine treatment is fine The ladies here have been so nice!! I had no idea on how to take care of my hair since it has been natural for over 10 years and I made the jump to relaxers and it is like starting all over again learning how to care for my hair. I have learned more here than at salons and stores because those people there are trying to make a sale and they usually tell you what works for other people not realizing that your hair is different from everyone else's hair. I learn more and more everyday about what my hair likes and what it doesn't like. This board has been a blessing to me Did you order the MTG yet? I heard that it works wonders and I ordered some yesterday. I cannot wait for the stuff to get here. Since your hair is still braided, you should go ahead and order the trial size and see if it works for you. The trial size with shipping and handling should set you back only $11 dollars. As for wigs, I have no idea on where to look for those... If I find any good links about that, I will let you know. Good luck!!
yeah....I actually ordered it yesterday. I tried that WGO and had to get up and wash my hair.......it made me itch. Do you know how long it takes to dry braids?....Lawd, I'm tired.....but I applied some sulfer 8 to my scalp (and I feel much better)........I can really wash my hair this weekend. I'm going to take these braids out soon. I'm worrying too much about this, if he loves me, then he'll accept me until it grows back (prayerfully).....I will not be a slave to my hair!!!!!!!

well I found a hair integration piece (click the link) that will allow me to braid my own hair or opt to leave it free and my edges will be left untouched......I'll try this for a while and see what the doc says. Also, I'm not going to stress myself out about this anymore because I don't want to covet my hair. God may allow it to stay this way because I'm worried more about it than praising Him.....so with that being said, I know its going to be alright....now I got to get that message down in my spirit.

It just happened that way. He met me w/ a weave and from there I had my hair braided so he's never seen my real hair. I don't know if he'll accept me w/ this thinning/balding. I'm scared honestly. Heck, I'm scared because this has never happened to me before. I decided to take my braids out in 2 weeks and wear a wig until I can see the dermatologist. It's making me really sick to think that I'm losing my hair and that I possiby did this to my self. UGH!!! I started wearing my hair in a weave last April to give my hair a break and to let it grow out some and then this.......ugh!!!! I'm so disgusted right now.....but I gotta believe it's going to be okay.

Just go to a beauty supply store and try some on. Synthetic is best since they're cheaper (mine was $35 1 year ago) and hold their shape/curls after washing. You may want to stay away from cornrows too, because it pulls the hair tight.
To wash a wig, you simply fill the sink with clean water and a little shampoo, swish the wig around a couple of times, and then swish it around in some clean water, and hang up to dry.

This is just my personal opinion, but it may benefit your hair to let it rest from all hair add-ins and chemicals for a while. If you're not into afros or other natural styles, maybe you could try plaiting it and wearing a wig sometimes. I've found that my hair grew beautifully when I wore a wig. I would just put Pantene's Creme Oil Moisturizer and Perfective's Mega Growth Strengthener (the only 2 moisturizers I use at all), plait it, and put a wig on it. That may be best since your hair is probably stressed out from the braids and weaves.
you're probably right. Since I haven't been natural since a child, it is scary for me to think about what to do with my hair. I wish I could find a really nice natural looking wig. If you know where I might find one, please let me know. I was thinking maybe I should just cornrow my own hair for a while and let it rest but working in business, the "natural" look doesn't go over so well. I don't know what to do. I never realized just how emotionally attached we are to our hair. My boyfriend has never ever seen my real hair and that is also scary to me. I know I gotta do something and do it soon.

You might want to check out the Crowing glory technique on how to care for you hair while its in braids. I have heard other girls that have found sucess with it HTH
I wash my braids once a week. I apply ORS serum or balm to the affected areas (which is non-greasy and massage for 10 seconds in each area) and I spray my hair w/ coconut oil daily. On occasion, I put lite oil on my scalp cause it gets dry from time to time. Is this too much?

Hey welcome to the board , I read that applying castor oil can help thicken hair and increase growth so I just started doing it to my thinning spots and I am starting to notice a difference...this the best place to get info so I am sure the other ladies have great suggestions too

I have the same problem you have... the edges are thin from wearing braids. I have worn braids for years and years and that is how my edges got bad. I would first suggest taking a good multi-vitamin. Secondly, don't make the same mistake I have made. I am currently correcting it.... when you put the oils on your problem areas, DO NOT put this into your scalp daily. Only do this if you are washing your hair on a daily basis. Too much oil will clog your pores and actually cause your hair to thin and fall out. I would suggest putting an oil on those problem spots every other day. I hope that this helps!! I just don't want you to go through the same drama I am going through lol. Let me know how it works for you
hi- welcome aboard. I'm natural too- i have a thin spot in the back of my nape due to stress. I have been taking vitamin e pills and poking a hole in them and applying that directly on the spot and massaging it in. this is helping, also as princess said get some rosemary oil (15-20 drops ) and dilute that in sweet almond oil and use that on your problem areas as well. I also started using surge a week or two ago you may want to invest in surge 14 plus hair revitalizer- it is also helping me a great seal with manageability-detangling and growth hopefully. Oh and on poo days when your hair is out do a pre-poo treatment with castor oil- this will soften/moisturize and thicken up your hair. I wear a shruken fro daily- i do cowashes and poo a few times a week- i make sure that i deep condition at least once a week with heat for 45-60 mins and use a protein treatment monthly. Garlic shampoo will help with shedding. Hope this helps a little.

thanks guys for everything. I'm experimenting on my hair...I'm using the mega thick doo grow on a think spot at my nape and ORS on the front....hopefully something will work. Lord I pray I haven't damaged my edges for life.....we'll see.

hey, Im J. Just make sure you keep alot of heat out of your hair. I used olive oil on my thin spots and it made it grow back thick and much stronger. Rosemary is good too
