QuoteReplyTopic: Brown won’t stay... A certain situation: Posted: February 04 2006 at 12:48am
I bleached my hair from black, and got to a yellow/red tone. I burned off
a lot of hair in the process... so it was very damaged.
It was definitely light enough, though.
I've been dying with semi-permanent, which of course will not stay
forever, but it does kind of fade out quickly... and it's like all I can see in
my hair is RED. When it's freshly dyed, it's fine.
I really don't want to do anything else to my hair, if possible. I could start
using permanent brown, and wouldn't that work? I mean, the semi-
permanent when it's first on is perfect.
The products I've used are:
Logics lightener
and Attitudes dye. Both from stores for those with a license, so I've been
using good things I'd say.
Do I REALLY need to get toner and filler and all of that? Can't I just use
permanent dyes? How often should I run that through my hair? Is
permanent's purpose for ONCE run through, and not more than that?
I'm just afraid of the permanent fading and me having more
processes... the fading from the semi isn't so bad, but it does in fact fade.
I'm going for a medium brown to match my natural hair color...
I do have a bottle of permanent but it's my mother's. I have her color in
semi and she said she'd let me have her permanent, but I'm afraid of it
being too dark (again, in the Attitudes brand)
My grandmother is licensed, but is away until May, so I have to get my
own products from salon stores open to the public. What are some VERY
GOOD dyes that I could get from stores like "Sally's"? I don't want to use
anything that would be bad for my hair, like "box dyes."
Hi, sorry to hair about the damage caused by bleach.
It is quite likely that if you use permanent brown colour on your hair
it will go too dark or even black, because you hair has been left too porous from the
bleach, especially at the ends. I'd say stick to the semi
perms while your hair is recovering from the bleach trauma - if you use
a permanent and it goes wrong you'll have to damage your hair even more
to lighten it again. That could seriously fry all your hair off.
If you still want to try permanent, use protein filler, if you can get
it, to balance out the porousity in your hair by replacing missing
protein. Also try a colour a few shades lighter than you would
have done, maybe in an ash shade to get rid of some of the brassiness -
and make sure you strand test -take strands from tips and roots
underneath - it is so worth it.
Permanents are for running through once if you want to put it like
that, because they don't wash out. They fade, but not at all like
a semi-permanent does. And roots are always a b*tch!
Good luck, make sure you look after you hair - use protein treatments
and intense conditioners before you dye it again also. Trimming
the ends might not be a bad idea if you haven't done already.
Your hair is probably very dry now, it needs a lot of care.
After reading this, I felt better about going in and dying my hair with the
semi again.
I have 3 shades, I have Light Neutral Brown, Medium Golden Brown, and
Dark Cool Blonde. I've only put in 1/4 of the medium, 1/2 or 1/3 or the
neutral brown, and maybe 1/2 of the dark cool blonde.
It came out really dark... but only one shade darker than I had dyed it 2
weeks ago, and that faded out a LOT. This time, it looks really dark, and
it's wet and looks black.
Since this is still the same product, but with more of the dark browns put
in it, and still semi, should I expect this to fade out? Even a little bit?
Because this is too dark now, haha!
And another question would be:
Even though it fades before I dye again, do I have to worry about build-up
considering the product and that it's semi?
I expect it will fade A LOT yet if you've only just dyed it - but because it's darker, it might stay a nicer colour for longer.
Because semi only stains the hair, I wouldn't worry too much about
build-up - maybe stick to similar colours so you don't get muddy
results - but again these would a fade a lot over time.
With permanent the more you dye, the darker it goes over time because
dye cannot lighten dye - I have had so many problems with build-up from
permanent dyes!
