Hi, I just purchased a 4ft wide weft of remi hair. I've had clip in
extensions before and this is really my only option, as my lifestyle
sometimes demands I'm able to have shorter hair so I cannot opt for the
semi permenant options.
My previous extensions were artificial hair, and although I liked them,
I found they matted quickly and have decided to try out real hair.
Now I have read up on them I have discovered it is not advisable to cut
the hand tied wefts? Although some have said that putting some nail
glue on the end will stop unravelling?
I have also read about the 'staggering' method, but have failed to find an explanation of what this actually is?
Do you want to make clip ins out of hand tied hair? I do that all the time, it's my favorite because they don't shed.
Some people do cut them after applying nail glue, but I have never done that.
As for straggering them, I believe you are referring to the tutorial I wrote on making clip ins.
What I mean by staggering:
As you know, hand tieds come in widths of 10". Well, depending on the size of your head, 10" wide may not go all the way around your head. For instance, I know that my top 2 tracks measure 12" wide, because I like to make sure I have a lot of hair near my face.
So, when I make my tracks with hand tieds, I first decide how many of those little guys I want per track. For me, since I like wearing a lot of hair, I usually put 3-4 per track.
Well, now I have 4 pieces that each are 10" wide, and I somehow need to make them into a 12" wide track. That's where the staggering comes in. I lay one weft down and then lay the others on top of it, but extend the others out to the width is 12". I measure with my tape measure to the appropriate width.
I then carefully pick them up and zig zag stitich it on the sewing machine and voila, I've got a 12" track made out of hand tieds, not cutting involved.
Now if you want a track shorter than 10", than you just need to fold the weft over until it measures the width you need.
Hey thanks very much for your reply. Yeah I have the hand tied weft and
would like to be able to cut it to make seperate tracks. The weft
itself is actually 4 feet wide, and I would like to make about 4-5
tracks to put through my hair.
I am thinking of cutting and glueing at the cut, do you know of anybody
who has done this and how it turns out? Does this affect the shedding
or durability of the pieces in any way?
