QuoteReplyTopic: Do you use "Grease"?? Posted: February 17 2006 at 3:32pm
I use grease but I decided to stop because I read that Mineral Oil and Petroleum Oil retards (slowens) your hair growth....which is what I'me trying to obtain. I also read that it blocks hair pores which is what produces the natural oils. If that's blocked your hair won't be moist.I always thought that that's what made my hair grow, but that only works in the summer time and thats because it melts in the sun.
My question is, do you use grease?? And is your hair affected by this? Also what can I use as a substitue for dry scalp.

I used to use pure mineral oil. It didn't slow down my growth but that is probably because I didn't put it on my scalp. I only put it on the ends. I never used grease before.
When my scalp gets dry, I usually wash my hair to add more moisture. If you don't want to wash, you could just put a little water on it. That works for me. I have also put a small amount of Elasta QP on my scalp at times. That might work.
I don't know if I am helping any.

Ya, I decided to start using Wild Growth after I wash and 4 times a week. That way my hair is moisterized and not clogged.

I used to use grease, I never experienced any problems by using it. I use oils now (mainly coconut), mostly because natural oils are much lighter than grease.
I used to use grease also until I found out it had some bad ingredients for hair in it so I stopped using anything with mineral oil and petroleum in it and my hair really improved so I never went back. I don't think grease did anything bad to my hair though, I just choose to use more natural things now because I saw the results from it. Now I use WGO, olive oil or shea butter for my scalp and hair. I'm hoping to get some coconut oil soon because that is good for hair also.
My mom and I used grease on my hair all my life until I found all of these hair forums(20yrs). The only problem I had with it was it made my hair so weighed down and greasy and I didn't like that. But before I found about Carrot Oil and things like that I would use as little grease as possible. But now since starting MTG, MTG is the only thing I use on my scalp. Before MTG I would use ORS Carrot Oil.

I use various oils...I do like softee coconut, it's really thin. Sometimes, but rarely, I put it on my ends when I wear my hair in a puff, just for the scent.

Back in the day I was using B&B grease for my hair and scalp...My hair texture and length have been so wonderful since I stopped using products that contain petroleum, mineral oil, and lanolin about 4 months ago
I used it when I was younger, and I didn't really notice a problem then...of course, my hair was natural then. For my relaxed hair, though, I use carrot oil, or sweet almond essantial oil diluted with jojoba. I certainly like the smell better.
I can't really say if grease helped or hurt though...I take care of my hair much, much differently that I did even three years ago.
