Well I'm very excited, I just got accepted to cosmetology school today! It was
touch and go for a while because they have a 'tattoo and piercing policy' and
as we know, I can't hide all my stuff or take everything out. Maybe my 96%
score on the proficiency test was what did it Either way I'm in! i start in May. Its an Aveda school here in Philly and is a
member of Intercoiffure which I'm hoping might help me if I decide to go
back to England any time soon.
Anyway, I know this is a bit o/t but I'm excited and I wanted to share :)
I will soon be joining the ranks of you professionals!

None of the other schools I looked at had a test (Venus & Empire) so I don't
think thats the norm..?
It had a load of obvious questions like which profession would you pick,
helping people find budget housing or designing tupperware? haha and then
it had all kinds of questions about shapes. Like it would show you a shape
and ask you which of the 5 options were the same shape if it had been
moved but not lifted off the paper. And then it had maths questions, and
questions about what colour would you pick for a heavier person and which
of these shoes would you wear to work, and which of these colours are
complementary etc.
Not rocket science :) I was pleased though because they said the average
score for most people was 74%

Congrats!! I just graduated from cosmetology school last October. It was the best time of my life. Just remember you won't learn everything you need to know in school. Most of it will seem rediculous.
I was having a hard time with facials and really bummed out. I had bombed the test and was very upset because it had killed my GPA. I was flipping out, crying like a baby. He called me in his office and said, "Most people spend their lives trying to be good at everything. It is better to be extraordinary at one thing and loving it as you do it. And, it doesn't hurt making a killing while you are doing it!" I thought this was great advice.
I have opened my own salon, and i am going for my audition for Matrix in a couple of months.
Just remember to have fun! Good Luck! The first 500 hours are the worst.
haha Amanda, I don't know where I put it all! I must have an abnormally
large head!
Thanks for all your congratulations! I cant wait to quit my retail job and
do
something creative for a change :)
This will be my second shot at further education, and I'm betting this will
be
more useful than my ceramics degree. haha. It's lke being 21 all over
again!
I will definately keep you all posted on how its going once I start my
studies! And I may be hitting you up for some help along the way
Tangles, thank you for being so generous :)
Good luck with your audition sms! i bet you are excited... and nervous!
