QuoteReplyTopic: New Here.. Q about protac/ microlinks Posted: March 16 2006 at 6:35pm
Hi everyone my name is nicci, and i was so excited today when I found this message board.. i have been doing searchs but never found what i was looking for about hair extensions..
SO to start off I had the weave in weft done profesionally many years ago.. liked the look but payed to much and it itched alot.. this was many years ago.. pius it gave me really bad headaches. Now just recenly I found haircandy.net and got really excited about the do it your self kind of extensions.. so i got the pretipped hair extensions.. and did some pretipping of my own..purchased the mircrolinks..seemed safest and most affordable and talked my wonderful fiance into appliying them.. he got really good to.. so i am currenlty wearing the micro links but they are alittle uncomfortable and they have a tendency to show..
so i was browsing the board and kept hearing about the protac.. it sounds very intresting to me..not quite sure exactly what it is, you use it with hair wefts correct.. my question is .. how do you get it out? ..could you use pretipped hair with it at all..Is it easy to get out.. i just bought all these pretipped hair pieces and would like to use them.. so any suggestions for micro links.. or something that will show less?
thanks everyone and glad to be here

There are several ways to get the protac tapes out. You can use any oily type remover, conditioner or acetone. The acetone working the quickest in my opinion.
If you do a search on pro-tac you will find a ton of great info on installing and removing!
Just a heads up, if the wefts itched for you, you may still have problems
with the protacs. I know I used glue with mine (and I think this may be
due to the glue) but my head itched like a crazy #$Q#*&Y#$!!!
Otherwise, I like the protacs better than the microlinks Shocking,
because I thought nothing could beat microlinks, but, better coverage,
not really obvious (my links always peeped out), and comfortable, I know
with links I could never sleep right the first few nights. With protacs,
never a problem.

oh, thats so good to know,, i always am paranoid that the links are showing through.. i have most of them on the bottom part of my hair but they alays manage to surface and i thinks its the metal on the links that is making it alittle uncomfortable, its bearable and i am starting to get used to it.. but i don't think its quite right yet and its difficult to sleep with them in still
I think that the reason before it itched was because the wefts were sewn in onto a very tight braid on my scalp and it under the braid that itched.. i remember taking a tinny hair pick and using it to scratch.. also i believe the lady used fishing wire to to the stiching with, she said it was much stronger... funny huh?

ohh, yeah, sometimes when they are too tight. With the protacs though
you can kind of get under there and scratch it. It's not too bad. I think you
can use some tea tree or something to help with that too. There is a
fourm topic thing somewhere on here about this.
I would say give them a try, I like them better. See what you think.
Oh, another pro, is that they are ALOT easier and faster to install!!! An
easy 90-minutes as opposed to my normal 7-8 hour microlink install!!
I did the pretips inside the Pro-Tac and I highly recommend it if you have tips but can't face the prospect of putting them in one by one. sherrie posted the thread where I had fused all the tips together side by side and then layed them down on the strips.
They're holding great. Not one tip has slid out and there is no shedding whatsoever. It took about 4 hours to set the tapes up but it was worth it - I'd do it again. The takedown is only going to take about an hour from start to total clean-up so there's that advantage to it also. :)
Amm how did you fuse the tips together? Did you do this to
get them to lye flatter .. I might have to do this, some of my pretipps
i combined so I wouldn't have to apply so many pretipps in my hair, it
worked just fine.
I am glad to hear that you had success using the pretips in the
Pro-Tac, I just purchased and pretipped alot of hair that matches my
own very beautifully it would be sad if I had to go and my new hair
already.. (i have three diffrent shades of blond)
Any suggestions for taking care of the Pro-tac once its in the hair, i
have been doing searches on teh Pro-tac but haven't found this
information yet?
THanks everyone, ill post some pics.. before and after when I get the protac
