I have had fusion GL in since Jan 18th.  Only two have come out of my head from brushing.  Which she said was normal.  I have had 3-4 come out near the bottom of my hair where  I had baby fine hair.  Those ones came out when I would run my fingers through the very bottom, some hairs would come through like and then it seemed they were barely hanging on to a couple hairs.  So those came out.  So in total about 6 have come out since Jan 18th.  Is this normal?  Will those hairs be really short and not match the rest of my head when they take out all of them?  Are you supposed to run your fingers through them? THat is what the home care sheet said.  HELLLLPPPP I am scared... I called the salon and my girl is not in yet.  I left messages since last week and have not heard from her.  My hair still looks beautiful, no tangles anywhere.  But I am concerned about the ones that came out of my head~!!!!!!!!!!

From what I understand, losing only 6 strands in two months is darn good.

Running your fingers through your hair helps keep away tangles, and you shouldn't worry about a few short hairs not matching when the extensions come out.

It sounds like things are going great for your hair!

PaulaJayne, Its been over 2 months so you should be getting ready for a re-do in a few weeks.  Those bonds are growing away from your roots and the shedding is leaving the bonds attached to less hair. Losing 6 in 2 months isnt anything to be concerned about. Your bound to loose a few. And the hairs you see attached might just be the hair that naturally sheds and would have fallen out if not attached to the bond.

But this is part of why we say 3 months MAX for extensions. Once your natural hair has shed quite a few hairs and there is less hairs holding the extension its time to re-do so you dont have issues with the extensions not being supported my enough natural hair and pulling your natural hair out along with it.

The two came out by brushing, but the other ones is where I ran my fingers through and more hairs came loose off the extension and then they were barely hanging on. I am still scared!!!!!!!!!!

You can always go back to your extensionist and have her take a look.  For the price of Great Lengths, you should be able to get excellent service.

Call your girl again today....have her LOOK at your bonds and make sure that there is enough hair still supporting the extensions. Stay calm sweetie  at 2 months it probably really isnt a big problem. It may have just been a few random strands... a few runts in the bunch so to speak!

It sort of concerns me though that you left her messages and she hasnt gotten back with you. Have you been to see her for any maintainance?

Alot of my hair has not grown hardly at all.  Only towards the bottom. The rest does not have alot of opening from the scalp to the extension. I think I am taking them out after we get back from Florida which will be 18th.  Do you that is too long?

That salon is extremely busy, they put you on hold and it takes weeks to get an appointment. I have an appt for April 12th. She has no openings until then.

Well...just my thought, but it only takes a few minutes for her to LOOK at them. And when there is a potential problem or the client is concerned, you should be able to get some help.

Do you think April 18th is too long to wait for her to look?

Yes I do. You're scared, and you should get reassured. If the lower area of your extensions you say some are barely hanging on then it should be checked out. If its only a couple I wouldnt worry. If the rest seem like they are attached to a fair amount of hair then its probably fine. But if you think you have alot of them that are only hanging by a little hair, I would request to be seen.

For piece of mind, I'd go in sooner than the 18th and have her take a look.  It will take 10 minutes or less.  I do this all the time for clients who have a concern of some sort.  No matter how busy I am , I can certainly find 10 minutes to talk to someone.  If she tells you she's too busy, she's a crappy business person and I wouldn't have her do your hair again.

I just talked to her and asked all my questions.  She said it is normal to lose a few. I explained that when I put my fingers in there that the ones near the bottom came out. She told me it is normal, and explained that my hairs release of there.  She said she will look at them on April 13th, make sure they are all attached correctly etc.  I told her that I may want to take them out Around april 18 and she said "oh really, I am sad that you want to take them out already, are you sure" She said she kept hers 5 months with no problems.  So we will see when I have her look at them and she can tell me how they look.

From my personal experience I have lost aboutthe same with fusion and less with the locs. But I am not familiar with Great lenghts. Whatever I had fall out before my gal would always put them right back in ---- right awway. Why do you want to take them all out ? It's a shame to spend all that time and money and then take them out!

Sherrie is right about not leaving them in so long. It may seem like it's fine but you're putting too much weight on your own hair. Hair sheds! So after several months, the bond is holding on to much less hair. I think the GL people are taught that it's fine to have them in for six months. Every time I've considered GL, they tell me they last six months. They're so expensive that it seems crazy to take them out before three months. That's why I would recomend a safe DIY method, ie: clip-ins, pro-tac.

I have an appt. with her on April 12th.  I talked to her and told her my concerns.  I have had them since Jan. 18th.  No tangles or any problems.  I will have her look at them on the 12th and she can tell me how much they have grown.  She was sad when I said I might want themout after April 18th.  She said that I could go longer with them.

I should state that only those near the very back bottom (3) were hanging on by a tiny hair and they came out.  All the rest are secure and are holding on by a lot of hair.

Paula, didn't you post previously concerning this installation of GL?  The install seem to be doing very well...really, loosing 6 strands in 2 months is pretty good.  There is no way to predict the pattern of how your hair will naturally shed, so my guess is that that is all that has happened.  It is the opinion of nearly all posters on this forum that fusion installs need maintenance and should be completely removed after 12 or so weeks of wear.

If you feel confident in your extensionist and she says all looks well when you see her on the 12th then keep the hair in if you like and just keep an eye out for those strands that are just hanging on.  If there seems to be more and more of them, it is time to get everything removed.  Better to wear the hair for a shorter period than to do possible permanant damage to your hair or worse yet, your scalp.

What ever you decide will be the best decision you can make at the time...try not to worry so much...you're fine .

First of all, losing a few is NORMAL for any strand by strand method.

Second, Leaving any extensions in for 6 months is VERY bad for your hair.  Read this :  http://www.cybermane.com/HairExtensionFAQs.html

You could end up with permanent hair loss.  Your stylist may not have any visible problems with hers now, but she will in time. Is it really worth it?  You seem very concerned about the few that are coming out, so it sounds like you care about the condition of your hair!

When I had great lengths of course my stylist told me they last 6 months.  Well he turned out to be a crook (almost ended up in a lawsuit) and not someone who could be trusted in general.  Not that all GL stylists are bad, but if they are telling you it lasts 6 months, they are either not knowlegable themselves are they are scamming you.   If I trusted every extensions stylist I've been to (and I've been to many) I probably would have no hair left!
