Hi there hannebash!
I can totally agree with You. I too love going shorter.
At first my Husband was like you "cut your hair shorter, why?" I said because it needed a trim, dry ends. Especially from the cold winter, then our Honeymoon in Mexico(lots of sun, and Ocean and pool water, I'm just surprised my hair wasn't more damaged! It's all good, Ironically, my Husband did say, he really couldn't tell my hair had a trim, and that it looks nice. Ha!, I showed Him! LOL!
Well, at least I didn't ruin my hair,LOL, I'm laughing because before we were married last summer, I surprised Him with big streaks of Fushia Pink(on the top and sides). Granted it was a bit bright and shocking,...(even I was shocked!). But, it was fun, and I guess I had a mini mid life crisis (early). LOL. I'm only now 35yr.s!
Ok, now you all know my crazy ways, I'm not ashamed though, I laugh at myself alot, or at least try to.
Thanks,...
Love, Katie;)
God Bless,...
Katie

My husband is constantly wanting me to grow my hair longer. When he met me, I had short hair (layered bob) and it has been even shorter. Every time I grow it for him I hate it and end up getting it chopped off. I had cancer as a teen, and worried immensely about losing my hiar. Thankfully i didn't but I have always said that I would go wig-less if I get cancer again and have to have chemo. I've seen women with scarves during chemo and they look really pretty.I am currently growing my hair, just to see what it looks like longer. I finally have my natural color back (dark brown) after being a generic highlighted blonde for a long time.I want to see what it looks like healthy and longer. I will probably end up getting it chopped though.

I really appreciate all the posts, and especially your new posts.
I feel good about starting this thread. I wasn't sure anyone on here would really respond. I know, there are alot of people who love lots of hair, however I just trimmed about an inch off the bottom yesterday.
So my hair has a fresher look.
The longer my hair gets, the messier it looks,..very frusterating.
Last night at a local pub/restaurant,..we saw a bartender (woman) with super short hair, long bangs with streaks(looked cool) of reddish pink, and only on her right side near her lower cheek, two thick strands of hair flipped. I remember us seeing her with a little longer hair last year. So her new Pixie cut fits her small pretty face. I loved the reddish pink highlights, very fun for her long bangs! ;)
I love seeing people being creative, and low maintenece with their hair. Longer hair bores me, Sorry, that's my opinion.
Thanks,..
Love, Katie;)
God Bless,...

Thanks Katay for the kind words on our look. It's funny, I have never known her (my girlfriend) with anything but either a short (#1 all over) crewcut or completely shaved head, but others are shocked that have not seen her in a while. Her style evolution went from long (shoulder length) to a bob to a flattop to it's current look. She goes to a normal barbershop every two weeks and has them bald fade the hair and then use edgers for the rest.

I've never shaved my head, but close. I had various lengths of buzzcut for a while, a few years ago. I did it 'cause I was tired of always worrying how my hair looked, and also that I didn't wanna have to deal with styling. It was very low-maintenance, which was good. I don't remember getting a lot of bad reactions to it, either. *shrugs* Most people didn't say anything, at least when I was there to hear it. Dunno what they said behind my back.
More awesome than a manatee!

My girlfriend and I both sport the shaved look. I can't imagine her with anything other than a close cropped look and I know she likes my look. It really has gotten to the point where I don't get shocked when I see a bald or close cropped look on a female. Maybe the times are changing, but to me, it's a style (I prefer) and not really a statement.
i am in north east PA just south of you. It's funny you say your wife is growing out for a weddiing. My daughter is getting married in 2007 May, and my wife is doing the same. She has very short boyish cut and loves it She say' she may cut prior to but it's her hair she wants it cut I'll do it of course.I see alot of mid aged ladies having it cut short or at least a isemetirc bob . and when the wife and I go out on the town most of the time i alway's see someone with a short cut. If your wife needs to grow out for a we
What part of the country do you come from where women are starting to go back to very short haircuts? Here in northern new york there has definitely been a trend away from very short hair, at least for the last six months(maybe because of the cold weather). I was lucky enough that my wife had kept her hair quite short for the past two years, but now she is growing it out for a wedding this summer, and after the wedding she has agreed to cut it short again, but I worry that if nobody in this area is wearing short short styles, she may not be willing to crop it.

I appreciate everyones input on this touchy topic, especially for women.
I am glad and realize now, how cool literally in the summer I felt with a bit of hair, and how unique I was.
I do remember knowing a few women going through cancer, ironically after I had my head shaved. So I assume that they thought I was there for them in solidarity(if you will).
I've always wanted to be a barber/stylist. But my Identical Twin Sister Barb accomplished that instead. I feel all thumbs with the angles, etc. dexterity etc., neccesary for doing peoples hair.
I however am a pastry chef/professional Baker, and proud of that. Then at one time, I went to my community college, and became a CNA( Certified nurses Assistant) for a year.
Now I'm considering volunteering with the elderly, I don't need the money.
Thanks for sharing, and allowing me to share too!;)
Katie,As a barber / stylist I realy don't see much head shaving. I have two clients that in the summer rest assure they have their head shaved. I know them well one is single and one is married many years. The one that is married both her and her husband always come in together. Odd enough he does not. She had originaly had her head shave in a benefit and loved it. I do alot of very short cuts for ladies and I do see a pattern of very short hair coming back. Flattops are a big thing for ladies recntly I had done a few over the past weeks. In what ever style a peson decides they must feel comfortable with themselfs. Prior to a major makeover I always ask a few times ARE YOU SURE! then it's ok here we go. A couple of times the client would ask to make the first cut . I let them cut some of their bangs. Katie, the other item that I see alot of is a very short tapperd nape with a tattoo in that area. Ladies pay alot for the art work why hide it. In a nutshell I feel short hair on a lady show that she is daring and very brave along with showing the rest that she can do this and has the courage for more. I have very high praises for those who do and those who thought about doing it I am sure someday they will.

I must tell you, that my barely there hair was only in 2003. Otherwise, my hair has grown out nicely.
However, if I ever needed chemotherapy, and lost my hair, I would consider a tattoo on my head,;)
P.S. My Husband likes my Naturally Redhair, so, I better not shave it, but if I were single now, I'd probably get a mini mohawk, and dye it pink,LOL, I can dream! ;)
God Bless You, and all other men, who appreciate a woman even with almost no hair or literally no hair!
I agree, I saw a woman, a couple months before I did that to my hair, at a book store, and she had some complimentory makeup, nice outfit, and had a very pretty face.
All I could think was, Wow! I wish I looked like her,..so I think she inspired me.
Since 2003, I've been more forgiving of myself and others. Besides lifes too short to worry about ones hair, and what people think, ugh, it's sooo exhausting, believe me;)
If a woman is very feminine and beautiful and has nice facial features, she can look sensational with a shaved bald head.
You can really see a woman's gorgeous feminine features with a shaved head, and I have seen a number of women wear the bald look well, including my lady, who has off and on, worn the bald look for the past few years.
One of the most attractive looks on a woman is, a beautiful feminine woman with a shaved head, dressed up sensual in a beautiful dress with nice makeup and long dangle earrings. What a delightful look on a feminine woman!

Thank You, for sharing about your wife's friend. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who felt that :Messing with my hair was a nusince". I know shaving ones head is extreme, especially for women. But You're right if you have a beautiful face, a shaved head will show your face.
I literally felt good, and at times bad for doing that to myself. Plus having a twin sister,...well, it feels liberating, but there is competition to look alike. Thank God my Brother, said after he saw me for the first 5 minutes, said"I'm used to how you look Katie, Don't worry, I've known women who have done lots of things to their hair. He(my brother is so cool). Also I have a younger sister, and she is always there for me too;)
My dad said I had good bone stucture for it. But when my hair grew back, my dad said I look nice with hair, and to never cut it again. My brother told me to go bald as an eagle, who cares what our Dad said.;)
My mom, said"wow, that is really short".
My other family didn't really mention it, except that it looked cooler for the summer.
One lady at church, asked if I was trying to identify with cancer patients? I said, "No, I just wanted it this way".
My sort of loser boyfriend said I looked sexy(with hardly any hair) and he said it looked"combat rock", LOL, oh well, that's life!
Last summer my wife and I ran into an old friend of hers that she had not seen in several years. She was a very beautiful woman of about forty, and had her hair buzzed tight to the scalp. My wife didn't want to bring up her hair, thinking she might be going through chemo, until the other woman commented that she had gotten fed up with hair maintaince and decided to shave her head. She then complimented my wife on her new short cut. She definitely turned a lot of heads, but I think it was because she looked so damn good.If you have a beautiful face nothing shows it off like a very close buzzcut.

I literally looked like a female "Terminator" as it grew out,LOL!
I was so depressed before I did it. I hated messing with my bob style hair. Really deep down I was bored, and depressed in my life 3 years ago. So one night I used a scissors to chop all my hair, then shaved it on the sides. It looked like annie lenox, sinead O'conner, and G.I. Jane all at once LOL!!! Ofcourse I can laugh now. I remember feeling liberated for the first day,...then I felt ugly. Ironically I looked beautiful. My high cheekbones, nice eyes really stood out;)'
I went out with my(then loser boyfriend) and to Church, and family summer parties, etc.
I guess, I got use to it. I grew some GUTS!
I tell you it really takes a toll on a woman(like myself). Especially, since I am consevative. I guess I needed to push the envelope a bit,....I could've slit my throat, but decided to live.
My life now is very fulfilling in all ways. I stopped the pity parties, and faced my beliefs in God, and went to Bible study every Sat morning and I learned I was Loved by Jesus, and gradually I Loved myself honestly, no matter what I was going through. I also grew a sense of Humor!!! I like laughing at myself, and I try not to judge, especially since I went through sooo much Depression, etc.
God Bless Everyone!
Peace, Love to all, Thanks for reading,..
Love, Katie;)

, for any other reason/s would you get your Head shaved? Any takers? C'mon it's only hair, it'll grow back, I promise. Besides, Isn't it fun to be unique, and also it's the 21st century,...so why not!
Hell, 3 years ago I did it, and I was soo depressed before and after I did it. At least Natalie Portman is getting lots of money and press now.
