I am sure a lot of companies by now know that mineral oil and petroleum are bad for the hair. My question is what benefits  the company by them using this? Is it a cheap agent? Is it the fact that they think the general public is clueless? Are do they really just not care as long as they are making a buck?  Are do they truly think nothing is wrong with mineral oil and petroleum? Thanks to this and other hair sites I now better and I try to tell others I come in contact with the facts.  If I had enough power I would try to convence hair supplier not to carry items that contain these agents so that they can no longer damage hair. I care about the health of all hair and I hate to see and hear about things that can damage hair.  That way if sales were down and no one bought such products, the companies would be forced to change.

Alot of AA don't know about the negative effects of products such as mineral oil and petroleum and therefore, continue to use 'grease' on their hair, as their parents and grandparents did.  As long as the companies continue to profit at the expense of you losing your hair, and there's no gov't interviention to tell them to not produce and sell this product, it does not care.  Profit is the bottom line.

I only stopped after coming to this forum and learning that it clogs hair follicles.

I SOMETIMES use products with mineral oil. They don't bother my hair...I ONLY PUT IT ON MY HAIR NOT MY SCALP. When people mention mineral oil they usually mention that it blocks the pores in the scalp...so I'm guessing its not bad on hair (which is dead). I've even experiemented with PURE MINERAL OIL FOR 2 weeks and my hair didn't feel different at all.

Also, I believe that companies use it as something to stretch the products to make more of it for less. Basically, its like adding bread crumbs into your meat to make more burgers ( instead of one day of burgers, add some bread crumbs to stretch it and you will have 3 days worth of burgers).

I agree w/ cmesweet.   Companies do use these ingredients to stretch their products because they are very cheap.
