I was wondering how much protein is needed for healthy hair growth I lost alot of weight and I was negligent about protein.  I am a vegetarian and I wonder if the protein in soy beans are adequate enough protein.  Also I seem to be very sensitive to shampoos and conditioners and I cant seem to figure out what is effecting my scalp, any ideas?

Soy protein is the best protein for your body. It is quickly absorbed and 100% of the protein in soy goes to your system. The benefits are amazing, your skin, nails and HAIR will respond dramatically. Women need 50 grams of protein a day. A good protein shake is a great way to achieve this, there are some excellent ones out there that have 22 or more grams of protein in just one shake. Low in calories if mixed with skim milk and sweetened with Splenda...they taste great...How do I know??? I lost 75 lbs 6 years ago and had a terrible problem with my skin, nails and hair until I started using soy. It takes about 3 weeks to see the changes. EAS has a whey protein powder that is great if mixed like I described.

Thank you for your response.  I realized that I needed protein, but you know how it is when you lose that much weight.  I am very careful about my calories.  I work out alot too.  I was afraid of protein because of the calories the food may have that contained it.  I found Edamame (sp?) which is a shelled soy bean, which you probably already know.  I eat alot of it, and tofu also.  I eat fish more than once a week.  Let me know what you do.

Congrat Karen on your weight lose and commitment to keep it off. You must realize that this is a life long effort...BUT there are things to do to make it easier and stay healthy. I mistakenly told you that the whey protein is soy, it is made from milk, not soy, but it has all the fat removed and only the protein remains. The shake I drink every morning has 120 calories mixed with skim milk. It taste great too...for snacking 94% fat free microwave popcorn and kettle corn are my favorites, the mini bags have only 100 calories. I limit my calories to 1000 or less per day, then have a "free" day, usually Sunday's to eat whatever I want...pancakes, burgers, anything I want...then on  Monday it's back to low cal. This has worked for me. I don't work out, I hate exercise, I do live on an acreage with horses and all, so I'm active in that way.

How did you lose weight? How old are you?

I am 48yrs old, 5"8" about 137lbs...down from 192 in 1998. The weight lose and healthy living make me look 10-15 years younger than I am, not bragging, but this is what I am told all the time. I believe weight adds 5 years for every 10 lbs...

I am also 48 years old I am 5 foot 6 inches about 150 pounds.  I dont look like I weigh that much because I work out.  I am down from 270.  I used Weight Watchers and took bits and pieces from any source I could find.  I love the Fitness and Shape magazines and reading how other people achieved their goals.  Doing the point system with Weight Watchers helped me to realize how overboard I was going.  It is alot of hard work.  I am so jealous of you I love horses and dont get to go horseback riding much.  I have alot of reason to stay healthy.  I have a 3 year old granddaughter who is full of energy.

As you know getting older means weight loss is harder...anything I can do to help I would be glad to assist. My girlfriend (same age) lost her weight on WW too...she loves it, everyone just has to find what's right for them. Why did you become a vegetarian?

Grandbaby, huh, how cute...my 28 daughter and husband just had their 2nd...a boy, their olderst (18months!!) is a girl...this Nana thing is sooooo fun!!

I am a mom-mom, thats what my granddaughter calls me.  She is so cute, she is 3.  I love being a mom-mom.

I found being a vegetarian allowed me to have portions that would fill me up.  I research and talk alot to people.  Now I am making sure I am getting what I need.  Like making sure I get my protein and there are alternatives to red meat, such as soy beans.  I like fruit, like last night I ate watermelon for my desert.  I like eating watermelon because it's delicious and I dont have to measure it.  I have alot of trouble with feeling hungry.  Weight Watchers was only a part of the whole picture.  I work out because that backs up how much work it is to take off the weight.  I started with walking.  I walked 5 miles a day and I do an aerobic/step tape at lunch time.  I finally realized that losing weight is a life change and not just a diet.  I read an article in Glamour ( not sure what month), but the author said diets are failures.  You have to change your eating habits and exercise.  I cant tell you exactly what she said but it was alot of how I felt and made the final weight loss.  You have to do it for yourself and whatever works for you is what you have to use.

Last night I went and found a great shampoo.  Not only do I need to know about protein but I have an itchy scalp and I think I found the answer.  I think I am alergic to Sulfates.  I found a shampoo that is all vegan and doesn't have sulfates in it.  It is called Johnathan. All his products are 100% Vegan.  I keep my fingers crossed.  Anyway talk to you later.
