Hi.

I used to use Herbal Essences #49 "Beyond Cherry", and it was a BEAUTIFUL tomato red that covered evenly and faded slowly.  Sadly, they discontinued this color, and I am searching for a nice tomato red hair dye.  Does anyone know of a particular brand and color that offers a permanent bright red?

Thanks in advance!

I have tomato red and boy do I mean red hair and I use L'OREAL Excellence HICOLOR for dark hair only and the color is RED that is the name of the color on the box. You can get it at Sally's or I just noticed last night it is on E-bay.But if you want RED!!!! That it is.I use Paves shampoo because it has no SULFATES which will not strip your hair color as fast as other shampoo's and I use a color deposit conditioner. You can get Paves at Walgreens it is made by Kevin Paves Hairstylist to celebrities such as Jessica Simpson.I know of alot of good products for red hair that do actually work.
Just be glad we are not getting all the Goverment we are paying for.

Oooh i'm gonna check out L'oreal Excellence Hicolor too....I need a professional dye that will make my hair intense red, as drugstore brands won't work on my hair any more.  Will 30vol L'Oreal Oreor Creme Developer be suitable with this product?

Do you have any experience with Colorfix?  I have highlighted parts of my hair that I've dyed over.  I'm wondering if I could Colorfix my hair and these areas, then use the HiColor.

Another question-- what would be the difference between using a 30 volume developer and a 40 volume developer?  Thank you!

I do not know about colorfix sorry.I can only tell you my experience with the HICOLOR. First of all I only have about 3 inches of hair due to it fallen out after I had it bleached  by a ProfessionalTech Colorist so it had to be all shaved off.The color was put on my natural black hair not colored if you do color your hair black it will not lift to the red color no matter what developer you use 30 or 40. I used both the 30 and the 40 and I could not tell the difference at all.I have medium to thick hair that is straight. And it is normal to dry.The only thing I do know for sure it is the reddest I have ever seen and I have seen alot of colors in my 40 years.
