Give it to me straight!

You have a couple of things going on here...

It sounds like your natural color is either brown or dark blond and you attempted to lighten it several shades... but didn't use a strong enough product to lighten it to the color you wanted.  So your hair's cuticle wasn't opened enough to let out the natural red pigment in your hair.  Thus, the unwanted orange.  Then you added color.  Because your hair had a good deal of "red" in it, that red tone was a base to whatever color you added.  (If you had added an ash color, instead of the color you chose, you probably would have gotten the result you wanted.)

Then you tried to go back to blonde.  The problem there, is you are just depositing color on top of color - not removing the "dark" red color.

So you can try home remedies... but don't hold out hope for a dramatic change, since you used a permanent color.  If will fade some - but most of the fading will proably occur within the first week.

The easiest thing for you to do is stick with the shaving idea & the home remedies.

If you're feeling adventurous, you can try to remove the color using a gentle color removing product like Colorfix (available at Sally's).  That will give you the right base to add color (after using Colorfix, I end up with a pumpkin-ish color).  Then you can DO A STRAND TEST with a color you chose.  If the strand looks good, do the rest of your head.  If not - asses the situation and pick a different color (if it's too red, choose an ash tone, etc.)  Then do another strand test with your new color choice, etc.

Or... of course, you could always go to a professional.

Ok, I'm male. I was an idiot, bought an impulse buy of garnier nutrisse permanant blonde colour. I dyed my hair, turned out some orangy blondy colour. I hated it, so I dyed it again. Thinking I'd choose a colour like my original, it turned out to be some darkish red colour. Now once again I dyed it, thinking the blonde is better than the dark red. Now it's stuck at kind of a light brown/orange colour which is digging into my self esteem!

Ok, so seeing as though I shaved my head to a #2 1/4" comb, how long will it take to work this permanent colour out? I've heard up to 6 weeks. Will it take less time for my shaved hair?

Now when my original colour does start to come back, will it eventually just work it's way out, or will I have to shave it again to get rid of the dyed hair?

Is there anyway I can speed up the process?
