    Posted: May 16 2006 at 10:23am
OK, here's the story, my client had install 7 oz. of bohyme that I pretipped myself and used shrinkS. She has had it in for 4 weeks and she says that it is matting on the right side of her head and so now she wants me to take out all of her hair on that side and replace it for free. I only charged her $350 for the install and the hair TOTAL which barely covered my cost. Is there a way to only take out one side of her head? Do I just remove them and then use shrink remover to get out the matting, then wash her hair with dish soap and start again? That seems really time consuming but I don't know what else to do. I love shrinks and I have never had any matting with them before. PLEASE HELP I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO

Lots of questions..

What's matting?? Her hair?? The extension hair?? Have you seen her hair yet?? I think before you can decide what to do you need to see her head.. Also how is she caring for the hair?? Is she a first time extension wearer??

Yes, she's a first timer. She says it is matting above the shrinks. I have not seen it yet because I am a teacher and I actually go to my clients houses to do there hair and she wants me to come over tonight "and bring everything to fix her hair". I'm kind of nervous as I have never had anyone have problems before. I gave her shampoo and conditioner, the looper brush, and told her to keep it tied back at night and not to wash it too often etc. Any ideas?

if it was all over matting, I would blame the hair.

If the matting is only on one side, then it's obvious thats its something wrong from her end.  thats probably the side she sleeps on and shes just not detangling enough like she's supposed to.  I would fix her hair, however I'd charge.

(edited for spelling, because even with the spellcheck, I never use the damn thing)

Thanks Kalika, that's what I thought too. Especially since I didn't make anything the first time around and I have to drive 2 hours to get to her house. Grr.

She's taking advantage if you have to drive 2 hours and you're not making any $$.

I agree.. That's why I asked was she a first timer.. Sounds to me like she's a first timer who is improperly taking care of her extensions, and is INCORRECTLY blaming her stylist.. A little repair and a whole LOT of re-education is what she needs.. Make sure she KNOWS you are not responsible for matting hair because she FAILS to follow aftercare instructions..

It really sound like she's not taking care of her extensions.. It's a common problem with 1st timers.. They think since it's "fake" hair that they don't REALLY have to care for it.. It's usually a recipe for disaster..

For myself, as a professional who backs her work- i would Absolutley fix her hair. And at no charge. PROVIDING she did follow ALL the instructions you hopefully sent her home with.
Did you forwarn her because you didnt charge her alot she was responsibe for any problems?
Did you give her at home care instructions in writing?
You are a teacher? A teacher who teaches hair extensions?
Are you a lisc. stylist?
It is not uncommon to have one side react differently then the other.
you can remove the matted ones and reinstall with no problem.

good luck

It was a matted mess, you know, like a dog's hair, and I asked her why she didn't call me earlier and she said she DIDN'T NOTICE!!! Her hubby had to point it out to her. I think she is not brushing at all but claiming she is. I had to remove most of the hair because it was so matted. When I was carefully trying to remove the dreads she had caused she made the comment to just rip them apart! I was flabergasted and told her I was trying to save her hair and that it might take a while. I did get all of the matting out and replaced the hair, although replacing the hair was a challenge because she had cut so many odd layers and trying to get it all to blend well again was a challenge. I didn't charge her and she gave me a box of German chocolates YUM! so it all ended well! Thanks for all the advice and she promises she will take better care of her hair. I did give her written instructions on how to care for them as well as pureology shampoo and conditioner, so there you have it! My husband thinks I am insane doing extensions because I don't make any money and he whines that I'm never home! Oh well, what we do for our hair addiction.

What kind of hair did you use on her?
Did she offer any money to you after you fixed her hair? If you answer no, I'm going to cry.

Another hair story with a happy ending! (except the part where she does not tip!) But you did get the chocolates.
