Hi, newbie here. Sorry if this has been posted before. If it has, which I'm sure, just direct me to the right link.
I have short hair, and I've been thinking of dyeing it (using a brown color "clairol" brand). But I'm sure I wont be using the whole bottle. What I'd like to know is if there's any way to preserve the rest so I can use it in the future.

You can't save it after it's mixed, 'cause it loses its effectiveness after an hour (and I've always read that storing mixed hair dye in a closed container can cause it to burst!). Maybe if you poured some of each bottle (don't mix the bottles together) into other containers, you could store it unmixed.
Most of the time, hair dyes say to use the whole container even if your hair is short, to make sure you saturate it all. But if your hair is really short, like a couple of inches, you probably could saturate it all with just half the dye.
