Hello all! So, I've highlighted my dark brown hair for the summer, had some breakage and dryness, but after much conditioning, my caramel-tinged tresses are recovering. Now, I am planning what shade to go to next. MWAAHAHAH!

seriously though, I saw a box of Revlon High Dimension permanent color in a shade from their "Red Hot Browns" collection. What can i say? I'm in LOVE! The shade is a medium red brown, not too orange, not too plum, not too cherry. well, at least not on the box. it looks delicious, especially for the fall, once i'm done with highlights.

BUT since my hair has been bleached and treated badly, i don't think doing a permanent color would be good for it. i was originally thinking going red with Redken EQ or Natural Instincts, but no shade comes close to this. Could I use the COLOR from the Revlon box and mix it with a lower level peroxide (I can buy @ Sally's or something) and have it be more gentle? is that possible? What level peroxide would be deposit-only? what would the color results be? Would it wash away quickly?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!! thanks!!!!

And i swear, this color is GORGEOUS. all three in their "red hot browns" are. If anyone has used them, can you let me/us know what the results are?

If I were you, I'd call Revlon and ask them what you can expect to happen if you mix their color with a lower volume developer.  You can also ask them what volume developer comes in the box, it may already be pretty low since its a dark color.  They would know best about their product.

Be sure to test strand, especially on a highlighted piece, it is more likely to come out a bright purply red with that kind of color over it, and may fade to pink since that hair will be more porous (not a permanent problem, you can always color again if it goes pink, you just may want to know in advance). You can wash your test strand repeatedly after you dye it to see what the result will be down the road. Good luck!
