That friend of yours is very wise Katja, heat tools is verry outdated and the ceramic flatirons are far superior. But  hey dont just take my word for it do some research. This site has all the info www.folica.com. Check out the great selection of flat irons listed there. I highly recommend the Sedu. It will get your hair silky smooth and I guarantee that you will love it sooo much you will use it way more that twice a year lol. It will change the way you look at your hair.  Good luck!!

I also had a reallly outdated straightener for quite a while, two years estimation. Unlike you, I use (well used to) my straightener every day. When I bought a new, more up to date ceramic straightner, my hair transformed into sleek and straight! I say that if the look you are going for is sleek and smooth, buy a new (but not exactly expensive) straightener.
Good Luck!

I style my (thick and slightly wavy) hair sans heat most of the time, but on very rare special occasions I like to straighten it with a flat iron.  However, the iron I have doesn't really get the job done... it keeps my waves intact and causes a lot of damage in a very short amount of time (although now that I use heat protector spray the damage isn't really an issue).  Anyway, I really don't know the first thing about heat tools, but I've heard from various friends that my straightener is quite outdated.  Someone suggested buying a ceramic ion straightener because apparently they don't cause as much damage and they do a better straightening job.

So, do these ceramic ion things really work better?  And is it worth it for me to buy one if I'm only going to use it a few times a year?
