QuoteReplyTopic: Weaves and Hair breakage? Posted: May 16 2006 at 7:45pm
Hi everyone, Im new to this forum! I am an african american 20 year old, who loves to wear weaves. Full head weaves usually. I just want to know if anyone has a really good weave care regime they would like to share?
And I noticed that my sides have broken off really bad, what can I do to take care of what little of my natural hair is loose? ( not braided or covered by the weave)
Thanks so much if some one could help me out!!

well i wear weaves the same way u do,and honestly i do not have a regimen!! i just wear it and be free. i would invest in a good moisturizer 4 the loose hair though. other than that, i just let my real hair grow under the weave and be free of having to worry about it at all.and for yur edges.moisturize them, and try not 2 brush them when u are fixing yur hair. i wear my weave with a part down the middle 2 refrain from exposing my edges, just so i dont have 2 brush them as often. hope this helps

Welcome to the forum....I'm a weave lover and wearer but I have to say that weave care regime's usually differs person to person but the basics are:
keep your natural hair underneith as well as what's lefted out moisturized and conditioned with a good leave-in or natural oils, do not pull or have excessive pulling/tugging done, make sure the braids are not too tight, try to have the hairline and permeter loose sometimes and other times braided, always do a deep condition/treatment before getting a weave and after taking it out, and use less heat as possible on your hair thats lefted out. Do not over do it and leave it in too long....2.5 months or so is the timeframe. Also try to give your hair a break/rest from weaves/sew-ins, which is basically what I do and I have positive results from wearing sew-in weaves. I think that's about it though..
Thanks for the responses, what would you guys suggest for a good moisturizing for my broken ends and sides, and kitchen? I wash my hair with pantene pro-v relaxed and natural, it works fine for me. I stopped using grease, because it had mineral oil and petreloum, all I have now to use to Africas best herbal oil, which seems pretty safe, but more like it just covers my hair with a fake shine...

I wear weaves every summer and i ALWAYS get my hair moisturized well. I use carrot oil once a week and ORS olive lotion every other day or whenever need. My hair grew out 3.5 inches last summer! This year i have added Horsetail to my vitamin regimen and i've noticed my braides under the weave have grown out like CRAZY. I can't even keep a weave in for more than a month because its growing out too fast.
I definetly say take care of your hair like it wasn't sewn down. Dilute your shampoo and conditioner into a squirt bottle so u won't get product build up and just watch it grow, grow, grow!!
