I'm trying to get some waves before school starts (aug 14).

I've been brushing for about a week and a half now and my family/friends claim they are seeing some waves developing. My main concern is this line I'm getting around my scalp.

I try to brush each section seperatly but I'm having a hard time with the top and sides of my head. I can't seem to ge that section right and in result I have this weird line that looks like a part.

Also when would be a good time to get a haircut? Next wednesday marks 3 weeks.
