From what I understand a Shampoo Cap is taking equal portions of your color and developer and mixing them with shampoo, wetting your hair, lathering it in, leaving it for 5-10 minutes and rinsing it out. The idea is to 'freshen' your color between touch-ups (?).

With what I'm trying to accomplish with darkening my ends once a month (after they fade to about a 10) to match my new/natiural growth (between an 8 and 9) I'm thinking this may be an option for me.....but I could do it every couple of weeks.

My questions are......

Has anyone tried this?
Can you do it with Demi?

It is similar to toning the hair.....it is done to pull the colors closer together to make the difference less noticible. Yes it can be done with demi color however it is usually done with permanent color. It helps to blur the line of demarcation between the different colors to make it less noticible.

To refresh your mid-shafts to ends (AKA previously colored hair) you could use the same color as your roots just use a semi or demi permanent color. Permanent haircolor over hair that has already been colored with permanent haircolor will just weaken the tensile strength of the hair by reforming the disulfide bonds of the hair to a cystiene bond....this weakens the hair strand by 3-5% each time more permanent color is pulled thru the hair.....do the math.....5 or 6 times of tossing permanent color over previously colored permanent hair that weakens the hairstrand by 15-18% not too mention it dries out and damages the cuticle which leads to dryness, possible breakage, etc.

Hope I didn't confuse ya.

G'luck

Thanks, Claude! Nah, I'm not confused. I've been using Demi since October now. My hair is in much better condition than I would think trying to darken it with Permanent would result.

Thanks for the info! I have only been applying the Demi to the previous colored hair to match my new/natural growth. It's been working fine....minus the little hickup I had.
