Hi Skye, from my understanding skin wefts are also called seamless
wefts. There have been several discussions on this forum and Sherrie's
forum about what is the best quality hair on these wefts and there
hasn't been any final say about it. None have been too great.
IMO using wefts for your extensions is the most undetectable and least damaging.
Skin wefts and seamless wefts are the same. However, having worn skin wefts and Protac, I can say Protac is far easier to install, but skin wefts are less detectable if done properly. Both methods are pretty easy on your hair, but I think Protac is as gentle as can be. When I had 8 oz of hair installed with skin wefts, you could run your hand down my hair, firmly, and not feel anything. Taking both methods into account, I think a hybrid approach would be best. Put Protacs in everywhere and then at the top use Skin wefts. Because the skin wefts are a newer thing, I think you'll start seeing better and better hair used. Skin wefts were the first method I ever had for extensions, done by a hairstylist friend, and it was non cuticle hair. She had taken a course from Tress Allure and never done any type of extensions before. We didn't even know what the proper name was for the type of weft she was using. I searched and searched on the internet to find out more about them and trying to find out what the "technical" name was for this type of weft. I could only find 1 site that carried them, sultryhair.com. That was November 2005. Now you can find them for sale all over the internet less than a year later in Asian, Indian, Remy, Non Remy, Virgin etc etc.... Right now, I am sans extensions, waiting eagerly for some of Amm's new Elite Remy Gold to arrive and I will be Protac-ing those babies in as they are pulled out of the mailbox!

I think there is a difference between skin weft and seamless.
I am no expert but I have made research on both.
The skin weft still has a weft, although very small and not too visible.
The seamless looks like it doesn't have a weft. The hair is connected to a transparent sort of plastic tape, so when you apply it on the hair, it looks like it grow from your own scalp.
That's why protac is recommended for lower rows, and seamless for top rows.
Protac is more economical, because you can use whatever hair, replace it etc.
With seamless, you have to use seamless hair only, which is more expensive maybe in the end.
I am about to receive seamless hair from glamourhair.com, in straight, length 18', so I will do the install someday soon.

the skin weft is the same thing as a seamless weft. With a skin weft the hair is attached to a thin transparent 'plactic-y looking material. The hair is embedded into the material so when its attached to your hair it resembles hair growing from the scalp.
Skin wefts are more expensive than wefted hair and the visablity issues are usually only a concern in the upper rows or crown area, so thats why alot of times people will suggest to use the skin wefts for the top rows.
I read awhile back that Metalgirl had a horrible experience with Pro-tac. and then others loved them. What is the best way to remove them. Is there something that takes them out without experiencing the hair loss that Metalgirl did? If I lose what she did I would probably end up bald! So I have been a bit nervous after reading that.
Did you experience that?
Also, with the hair that is availble in skin wefts, can you recommend a reputable place that offers good quality hair. I want the skin wefts just for the top.
I noticed that too. The seamless has that clear tape where the skin wefts have the strip that looks like your scalp. So I was not sure which one was better. I think the "skin wefts" look more natural - does that clear tape on the seamless show. It looks kinda shiny???
Will you add any more adhesive to your skin wefts?
Sherri, do you have a product that removes this pro tac tape? Does this tape attach to the hair just before the scalp or actually on the scalp?

I can't tell you more about the adhesive from seamless, I am going to do my first install this week, so I'll let you know!
I just know that Protac has had great reviews and seams to have many advantages: cheap, easy to put on yourself, you can use any kinds of hair, and easy to remove
Because I have extremely fine and fragile hair I don't think protac would be discrete enough for me, I think it would show.
Maybe if the Seamless method work to me, I'll try the protac on the lower rows!
I have to try protac soon anyway, I am too curious, I like to try new things!

the clear strip or material is on the other side, that attaches to your hair. You need to use an adhesive or tape with them. Skin weft/ seamless weft same thing.
Skye, there are several products that remove pro-tac. Different people have different results with each. For me what works the best and is lightning fast is pure professional acetone. I sell the C22 cirtrus solvent and that works excellent for alot of people. And some people have good results removing with just plain ol' conditioner.( A very thick conditioner left sit on the tapes for awhile)

What product is recommended to remove the protac without ripping your hair out? I have some of Amm's orange shrinkie remover stuff and that worked really well. Will this do the trick?
yep, the orange remover from amm will work. My C22 works also or any orange oil remover should work the same.
Yes, Im sure acetone is drying. But for me...I do less damage becuase the acetone works FAST and the wefts and tape slide right out. When I use other removers that might be gentler, they dont work that well and I end up doing my damage by picking pulling and being impatient.
For those who like acetone for removal, a good conditioning afterwards is good.
Each of these products has varying results for different people.
I did not lose hair because the Protac removal was difficult. In fact, with the orange oil, they came out quite easily. I lost hair because my hair roots are just too weak to support any kind of permanent extension. There are some people with genetically weak hair that will sustain damage from whatever method you put on them, and therefore they aren't good candidates for extensions.
If your hair is not genetically thin/fine and the roots don't get 'root pull' easily, than I'm sure that Protac will work fine for you.
PS- after week 3 I had insane constant itching with Protac, so keep in mind that some people will have reactions to certain adhesives.
I would like to show a pic of a supposed "skin" weft that I received in one of my recent orders. I had ordered skin weft, but I received this hair- which is def. not a skin weft.
THIS is what I believe to be the "seamless" weft that people have been referring to. I MAY be incorrect- I have not seen a weft like this before I received this order- however, I would certainly use the term seamless to describe this weft.
It is very thin and will be excellent to use for the top/crown areas.
It has an adhesive backing on it- but more adhesive (such as pro-tac pro-flex pro-tape) or a dollop of LG will be needed to hold it securely.
Has anyone else had any experience with this sort of weft?

huuh, where the heck did you get that from? I must say Ive never saw one like that!
I think different manufacturers and suppliers use the term skin weft or seamless weft. And Im sure different manufacturers wefts can vary in construction.
