Hi! I am wondering about dying my hair darker. Most of my hair is now a light brown color with a couple of platinum highlights. My hair is naturally almost black, so it has obviously been lightened quite a bit. I know that if you want to dye bleached hair darker, you need to do it in stages otherwise it will go to a greenish color. If I am going to go straight to black will I have a multi-tonal hair color? I was told by a stylist friend that it will not be multi-tonal due to the blue hues in the black dye. Is this a true statement?

WELL,I WENT THROUGH THIS MYSELF (KINDA). YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO GO STRAIGHT TO BLACK,BUT i WOULDNT RECCOMEND IT. I WAS ONCE TOLD BLONDE+BLACK=GREEN.
I JUST WENT FROM BLONDE TO A LIGHT REDDISH BROWN AND MY HAIR STILL TURNED WERID COLORS BECAUSE THE DYE I PICKED DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH RED IN IT. I CALLED A COLOR SPECIALISTS TOLD TO GO DARKER FROM BLONDE,YOU HAVE TO PUT SOME RED BACK IN IT OR IT COULD LOOK GREY OR GREEN.
HAVING SAID THAT,I HAVE DYED MY OWN HAIR BLACK BEFORE STRAIGHT FOM BLONDE AND THAT NEVER HAPPEND TO ME.KNOWING WHAT I KNOW NOW,I WOULDNT RISK IT.
mAKE SURE YOU WANT IT BLACK BEFORE YOU DO IT TOO,YOU PROBABLY KNOW BY NOW BLACK IS PRETTY HARD TO LIGHTEN. IF YOU'RE UNSURE YOU COULD GO TO A DARK BROWN.GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

becareful... it wont turn green but it will soak that color up so fast when you dye it... that iam almost scared to see your reaction once you see the final product. plus... if your hair has been bleached various times before, the color will most certainly bleed.. and you will end up with a "ashy" looking black.
Oh yeah your hair will definitely soak it up...I remember just going a dark brown from blonde (with Feria which is notorious for having reddy browns) and it was pitch black. It lightened very easily though, after I went back to blonde of course! LOL

NUMBER ONE - CONDITION,CONDITION,CONDITION. If Your Hair Is not In Good Condition-DON'T TRY TO COLOR IT DARKER! You Risk Streaky, Splotchy VERY Off-Color Results. If Really Want To Go Darker, Try It In Stages. Starting With A Reddish Brown, If Most Of The Color Holds. On Your Next Retouch Try A Deeper Shade In A NEUTRAL Brown. Remember- If Your Hair Has Been Light For Awile It May Look Really DARK when You Go Back To Your Original Color.
