Sherrie was right! Acetone alone got the Protac out of my hair and the
tape off the wefts with NO residue whatsoever, and the process was FAST
and not messy at all.

I was disheartened by how long it took to get my first installation out,
how much hair I lost, and what a pain it was to get the wefts reasonably
clean. I was halfways thinking I might not be able to continue to use
Protac. Well, I decided to try another installation despite my reservations,
and I am so glad I did.

Today I wanted to take out two side double pieces to reposition them.
The top one was in with Chrissy V glue and that one popped off and
cleaned up with acetone, easily, as usual. Then I applied a cotton ball
with pure acetone to the second weft, which was stuck firmly into my hair
with a full width of Protac tape. That sucker came out in about 3.2
seconds and didn't take one bit of my own hair with it when it came out.
Then I soaked the tape on the weft in acetone for about five
seconds--every stinking bit of the sticky tape came right off the hair and
weft. Amazing!

Thank you, Sherrie, for this great idea that's going to keep me in Protac
and extensions for a long time to come!

Great idea.  I have some old wefts that I cant get the latex (my very first installation, total nightmare) out of and I wonder if that would work?

I am amazed you had a tough time taking it out, I found it super easy. I wonder if it comes out easier in certain types of hair?  The tape was a little hard to get off the wefts with the peices I totally saturated with remover, but I learned if I didn't get the tape real wet with it and only massaged the remover around the hair stuck to it that the tape peels right off in one piece.
Wearing 22" 8oz Tease I tips installed with silicone microrings.

Long hair- yeah, letex is a disaster! I tried acetone with the latex left on
the weft, and it seemed like it made it come off a LITTLE better, but not
amazing or anything.

Yes, Ive used acetone many times on LG. It works quicker in my opinion than anything else.

The thing I DONT recommend is the combination of LG/Pro-Tac. I dont know what the specific problem was with that combination....but I had a beotch of a time getting that combo out of my hair! I used acetone and the wefts slid right out, leaving the tape and LG behind... in my hair.  Im thinking it was more about the LG/Pro-tac combo...but Im not sure!

I had such good success taking down one side of my new install, I
thought I'd take down and reapply the other side too. (Yeah, OK, I'm the
queen of anal retentiveness!) That acetone works great! I love how
CLEAN the wefts end up, and how quickly. I'm sure my next full takedown
won't take more than an hour, and that will include the time I spend
getting the wefts ready for reinstallation. Sherrie, you rock!

(I was trying to take pictures the other day and the batteries in my camera
quit. I promise I'll post some once I get to the store for new batteries.)

Funny - I just took out my pro-tac wefts with acetone today, too!  The tape definitely came off the wefts much easier with the acetone.

Here's my summary of methods:

Orange oil remover - good to get wefts out of hair and get all left over tape goo out of hair, but removing the tape from the wefts is difficult.

Conditioner - good to get the wefts out of the hair , hard to get tape off the wefts.  Tape goo residue remains on hair.

Acetone - good to get wefts out of the hair, very easy to get tape off wefts.  Tape goo residue remains in hair.

Hair type: 1a/f/i

I dont know if it makes any since, but when I used the orange remover I wouldn't try to pull the tape off the wefts........instead i pulled open the tape and pulled the wefts (I had 3 layers in each) out of the tape.  When I tried to peel the tape off the wefts the tape would break, but when I pulled the wefts while holding the tape they came right off.

No kidding about the LG/protac combo.  I did it once for a quick install just to hold me down for an emergency week (forbid I just go without lol).  I tried to take it out a week later, OUCH.  It might be good for someone who wanted to wear the method for 3 months lol......who knows.

Just out of curiousity, how long is it safe to keep wefts in?  Is it the same 3 months as strand by strand?

I took all of the protac out of my hair last night, everything went great except I still smell like a big orange lol.  I'm going to try to do the silicone microrings in the back, should be interesting.........

longhairaddict, Ive never been able to make a weft method last quite as long as a strand method. (Usually about 7 weeks tops for me.) Someone with thicker hair may be able to wear them longer, the tracks may not slip as fast on thick hair or dry hair.

Id say just keep on eye one the area underneath the wefts. If you start getting alot of matting under there then its time for a takedown!

i am glad to here the reviews and experiences with taking it out.. I was alittle nervous about that part with using the Pro-Tac, previously I used the micro rings.

I took my Pro-Tac out a few hours ago with acetone!  They slid right out with absolutely no residue on the weft or my hair!  That rocks!

Still using the C-22 citrus remover because it slides right out of my hair in such a short time, it smells good, and it's less damaging than acetone.

i like the C22, but honestly it burns my scalp...and im pretty tough, so i've found that slathering my whole head with thick conditioner first not only helps loosend the tapes but also protects my scalp from the C22, i just spray a little of it on  any areas that are still stuck after i let the condtioner sit for a half hour
