Now, yes you do want to get a better shampoo, but I like, personally, an infusium shampoo for color-treated hair, then infusium shampoo for color treated hair and I follow it with a leave on spray conditoner for colored hair by infusium also....it is a little more expensive than like Dove--I think. Though I love salon products...esp. Matrix and Paul Mitchell....I can't afford them, so these for me are the next best....plus I do alternate ever few days with a blonde shampoo with blonde conditoner (that's when I am blonde..lol) and I found a smoothing creme I loved one time and haven't been able to find it again....it was a Sassoon product..it was in a kinda pinkish tube and it was a smoothing creme..my sis had gien me her left over products...she is a hair product junkie....and I followed this with a Clinque hair serum and my hair feels so good with these products...I recently tried a garnier shine spray that feels so good too. Does anyone know if salon shampoos, conditioners are really all that different to the supermarket. My hairdresser asked what shampoo I use and I said Dove, she looked down her nose and tried to sell me salon products but I said I just cant afford them.

I used the kerastase mask the other day and my hair looks shinier and has a little more curl. I had my consultation today. We have decided on 2 dark blonde lowlights and blonde foils on the top. The hairdresser said the lowlights are a semi perm and wont be damaging, I told her when I did home semi perm colour it washed off the grey in a week but she assures me this wont happen with salon products, hope not. I will also get a cut, my hair is long and nearly all one length at last but typical, they want to give me some layers so it will bounce up! I am having it done in a months time so I can keep using the mask and get some moisture in. Will check out those sites, thanks foxy.

Anyway, if I had your issue with my hair, I would wait for it to heal and then if I could afford it, do an all over foiling mixing your natural blonde color with whatever tones your hair naturally has and add in a another shade...a blonde a couple of shades lighter---highlights---something that complements your complexion. I would definitely go to a professional and only alternate this treatment.....what I mean is to save money and to help your hair's quality, the next time you needed a touch up, I'd only get a partial foiling--the part from your ears forward and the top to the crown area....and maybe even alternate whether I got the haircolor or the highlights and I'd add some toner to my highlights...but like I said this is a job for a professional to get you on the right path. Then you could highlight at home occassionally, if you feel confident enough and if you get some good quality highlighting products. But the main thing is that you work on your hairs condition. Some days I skip washing and just rinse and condition...and rinse with cool water. Good luck....

Thanks for your interest foxy, my hair is currently a yellow brassy blonde mix, as a semi colour just wont wash away. Underneath my hair there is hardly any greys but my parting is full of them and am greying at the temples. I thought about highlights but really need a colour over the grey. Permanent colour covers the grey (but wrecks my hair) and semi perm just washes off the grey within a week! I thought I would get professional help for once as I always do home jobs but now that I am getting grey and frizzy better to pay the real pros! Thanks

yes I did. I always highlight it myself which is easy. But then decided to go darker all over with the intent of highlighting that once I got my desired shade/depth. I just pulled it thru and lowlighted...I darkened the whole thing last week, but not exactly the shade I wanted. I will be highlighting soon, but I want this color to stay, so I am not washing it for a few days. So, what is your color now? How gray are you? Does your gray hold the color? Would pulling your hair thru a cap and putting some blonde on that be an option...like blend with your grays or...hmmmmm a color like a med. blonde over the whole thing and then a pull thru with some lighter streaks of blonde???

Foxy, did you do this yourself? I think I want to go back to a natural dark blonde and have blonde highlights but my consultation may change my mind, whatever I get it needs to be up kept due to greying roots and preferaby only roots topped up as permanent colours (only 3 times in one year) have wreaked havoc on my hair. I will get back to you on what I decide.

cool! I tried something slightly new today. I'm too tired to go into detail now, but it was a dark auburn and I added some blue/violet based toner...just a little and did the ends with some gloss added too. It turned out very pretty...I kinda like it so I am not going to wash it like a maniac. It did not grab the ends due to my overconditioning them and the clear gloss added and the water and spray conditioner I misted on them....lol...night...oh, and go thru some pics so you have some idea what you want.....I always find celebrities that I keep coming back too...the haircolor that always attracts me is Jen. Annniston's, Eva Menedaz (sp??) and Sandra Bullock's (I don't like this reddish thing she has going on now...makes her look old to me) I love Salyma H. but her hair would be too dark for me. Ive just been to a salon and have been sold some kerastase Mask (intense conditioner) which I have to do once a week to prepare for colour. I have a consultation this week to discuss my options, its gonna cost a bomb but I think I need a make over, 1st one in my 44 years!

I, personally, find foils difficult to do on myself. You have to weave out hair....If it is only a small section, like a touch up, that's okay, but the whole head would be too difficult and I know I couldn't do the back by myself....lol...I tried to teach my military hubbie, but he was like heck no!!! But he will help me with applying color and pulling thru the back.
With foil you have to part off a small section....then weave out the desired amount of hair to color and then apply the color. I love em if a professional is doing them.
Question: Anyone that knows the answer, please advise me...if I am lowlighting and don't want to put color on the ends, but am foiling??? How do I do that.....have 2 bowls of color roots to midshaft with full strength color mixture and for the midshaft to ends a "watered-downed" version ( like gloss added and color deducted or some conditioner or water added??)
Thanks Susan you seem to be very knowledgeable, Im thinking of trying some foils, do you have experience of these, want to cover my grey but a bit worried that foils are chunky
Shampoos that remove brassiness may help tone it down, you will just
have to try it and see (it works for some people's but not for
others). If you want the semi permanent out, it should come out
eventually with lots of shampoos.

when i put the semi permanent brown in my dyed blonde hair it hasnt washed out so now my hair is a yellow golden blonde, anyway of removing that without chemicals, will those blonde shampoos that remove brass work? Thanks for all your help
Mayo is full of egg protein, oil and vinegar, I think its the vinegar
in it that can have an effect on dye (probably has to do with how
susceptible a certain dye may or may not be to acid solutions - I think
some are and some aren't so much). All of those things do make it
a great conditioner though, and the oils in it are probably better for
your table's finish than using vinegar alone would be!

Speaking of Mayo....one night my kids were coloring pics at my dining room table with washable markers which got on my blonde pinewood table. I looked up ways to rid the color marks and one way was to apply mayo. That something in it helps lift color. So now your comment about it and dye makes sense.

In the African-American hairsupply section of hair products, I bought a packet of an olive oil treatment. It was a bit smelly and I worked in my back yard in the sun with a plastic cap on. My husband was aghast with the odor...it had fishy air about it....lol. But it seemed to work good...couldn't hurt. My fav is the hot oil tubes. YOu know the little tubes of conditioner that comes with Clariol haircolor? I love that conditioner and wish they sold it separately. Good luck.
Jojoba or coconut oil is usually what people use on hair, they wash out
easily. You only use a drop or two to oil the hair though, then
comb or brush it through. It's something you put in and leave in
the hair. Mayo is more commonly used as a wash-out treatment, but
that can have unpredictable results on dyed hair (may take some of the
tones out, or may do nothing but give good conditioning).

Thanks foxy, unfortunately I live in New Zealand and we dont have half the products you get, but I will try the conditioner treatment, have you tried using olive oil, I hear its good but hard to get out.

Try some highlighting shampoos to get you by or if it is too yellow, try some shimmering lights shampoo. They both wash out....they are not perm, so they won't do damage. Plus, get some deep conditioner and some plastic shower caps and do some deep treatments. I go to bed with one on like 3 times a week and wrap a towel around my head. I rinse in the morning and lightly condition and barely rinse that out and I use cool water when rinsing. Also, go to Salley's and look for some kind of toning spray. I use to get a color...hmmm...something like golden blonde...I tried several and compared to find the shade of blonde I wanted. Then while my roots were growing out, I would touch up with the color spray. Practice using it and if you get the right shade, it will blend in pretty good. Oh, and the hot oil treatments with aloe in them leave my hair feeling great too.
