QuoteReplyTopic: Perming hair? Posted: October 16 2006 at 3:29pm
Iorder my hair wholesale and it normally comes either straight or with a very slight body wave, i have some clients who require more of a wave and had a cunning plan to braid a bundle of hair, maybe 1oz (or smaller for more of a curl) and put perming solution on it, has anyone tried this or have any tips? may do an experiment out of curiosity, do you think it will work? dont want to waste too much hair trying!

I have permed extension hair before with mostly good results. I wrapped it in rods and used a perm for bleached/highlighted hair. You must watch it very close, it will probably only take 3-10 minutes to process. Then you rinse it very well and do NOT put on the chemical neutralizer. Just let it air neutralize overnight, without taking it off the perm rods.
I was taught the 'no neutralizer' trick when I went to a hairpiece seminar at Onrite. I guess the neutralizer does damage to the extension hair. The perm will self-neutralize within 24-28 hours if you let it sit undisturbed.
Thats great thanks for the tips ill give it a try, do you think just braiding it will work in the same way? that seems to give me the wave i want just wanted to keep it that way rather than the rods?

Good luck!
I have also heard of this and was told exactly the same thing... that it's the neutralizer that does the damage.. I think long ago you had to sleep in those rods.... (I amost remeber something like that) ???
